Dear RUSD Community,
Big shout out to our PTA and Foundation! Thank you for all you are doing to help this school year begin in a way that makes students and families feel welcome and embraced. Thanks for all you do to help make this a special place!
- Two COVID Tests Coming Home for Every Family - Public Health asked that we send COVID tests home to each family ahead of the flu season as more people will likely be experiencing symptoms. This week, your student will bring tests home. Please plan to save them and use them as needed.
- Breakfast & Lunch FAQ - Use this link to find frequently asked questions about TheLunchMaster breakfast and lunch program on our website.
- Playground Update - Reed Elementary will be the first to have two new play structures. The contractor is waiting for equipment arrival. Reed’s structures are being installed first because the structure closest to PreK classrooms is not safety rated for our new precious PreK 4-year-olds. More information about our exciting groundbreaking will come when we better understand construction dates.
- Update on Larkspur Corte Madera School District (LCMSD) Discussions - The second IDT discussion took place. Larkspur presented a proposal. The two groups will meet again on October 10th where Reed will respond.
- Accessing State Test Scores for 4th-8th graders - Detailed directions are included below about how to access test scores digitally within Alma.
- Safe Routes Oct. 12 - We encourage everyone to bus, carpool, bike, or walk. Safety First.
- Get Ready to Help
- Belvedere Tiburon Library Grand Opening - Congratulations to the Reed and Bel Aire Choral Groups as well as these three students who represented RUSD beautifully at the grand opening.

- LCMSD IDT Discussions Continue - On September 26, 2022 the RUSD and LCMSD teams met for the second time to continue discussions regarding an updated interdistrict transfer agreement. Current IDT data were confirmed by both school districts, which includes 40 students and 24 households. The five students of LCMSD staff members that reside in East Corte Madera were not included in this data. In 2022-23, six interdistrict transfer requests from RUSD to LCMSD were denied. LCMSD presented their proposal for a new interdistrict transfer agreement. Topics were clarified and RUSD will present their response to the LCMSD proposal at the next scheduled meeting on October 10, 2022.
- Accessing Your Student’s State Test Scores Online - At the end of last school year, students in grades three through eight and high school participated in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) assessments.
Your child took the following test(s), depending on their grade level:
- Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics in grades three through eight
- California Science Test (CAST) in grades five and eighth
Student Score Reports can now be accessed electronically through the parent portal of our student information system, Alma. This report shows scores for ELA and mathematics. Students in grades four through eight who took the test in previous years will also see past scores so you can see your child's progress over time. The 2022 ELA and math tests were shorter, and with fewer questions, so the scores could not be broken down into different performance areas. Students will only receive an overall score in each subject. If your child was in grade five or eight last year, a second score report may be included for science that shows an overall score and information on how well your child did in different science domains.
To access your child’s Student Score Reports in Alma, follow these steps:
If your child’s scores do not appear in Alma, please email help@reedschools.org. If this is your first time logging in to Alma as a parent, follow the directions at the RUSD Tech Help Center.
To learn more about your child’s scores, go to the parent web page called Starting Smarter, available at https://ca.startingsmarter.org/.
In our district, the test results are just one way to look at how well our students are doing. We use the results to find areas in which students are doing well and areas in which they need help. It is also important to know that the test results are not used to determine whether a student moves to the next grade.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal if you have additional questions about this report.
Best regards,
Dr. Kimberly McGrath
Superintendent
