Dear RUSD Community,

Big thanks to Christina Bosch! As you have heard, Christina is stepping down as the Executive Director of the Foundation for Reed Schools. All of RUSD and the entire community want to thank Christina Bosch for her years of service with the Foundation for Reed Schools. Your dedication to our families, staff, and students has made a real difference in our school district. Thank you so much for your dedication and support. We know you are leaving the Foundation in great hands, and your impact will be felt for years to come. Thank you so much, Christina. You will be missed!

  • Universal Breakfast & Lunch - The LunchMaster has returned to service this week and the process is running much more smoothly. Thanks for hanging in there. It makes me proud to be part of a district and community that looks out for one another.

  • Safety Update -  Our top priority is safety. Three concrete steps have taken place recently: training, visitor management, and scheduling 3 districtwide drills.

  • COVID-19 Protocols from Marin County Public Health - For now, please remember that students and staff who test positive must provide evidence of a negative test on or after Day 6 to return to school in less than 10 days. In October, MCPH is anticipating aligning with CDC guidance.

  • First Discussion / Negotiation with Larkspur Corte Madera (LCMSD) on Interdistrict Transfer (IDT) Topic - Representatives from RUSD and LCMSD met this week for the first of a series of discussions.  The discussions are scheduled to be completed by December 1st. Ongoing information will be shared as the process continues.

  • Committees & Task Forces Underway - Productive meetings took place with the Master Facility Planning Committee and the Math Task Force. Thanks to everyone for giving your time and input!

  • Field trips are Returning - Since COVID protocols have allowed, we have the exciting opportunity to bring back field trips and overnight stays for our students.

  • Suicide Awareness Month - below you will find many helpful resources to use as you see fit with your family as we are all committed to raising awareness.

If you are interested in more detailed information, please see below:

  • Universal Breakfast & Lunch - The LunchMaster has returned to service this week and the process is running much more smoothly. RUSD is participating in a donation process for perishable items. We will continue to analyze the program and work on efficiencies. We will also continue with short-term and long-term planning based on the possible instability. As the saying goes, we will hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Thanks so much to the community for stepping up. It makes me proud to be part of a district and community that looks out for one another.

  • Safety Update -  Our top priority is safety. Three concrete steps have taken place recently: training, visitor management, and scheduling 3 district-wide drills. 1. Some staff members have attended Behavior Threat Assessment Training which is a great way for the staff to understand how to assess threats and to increase our proactive understandings to help our students and respond appropriately. 2. A new visitor management system called SchoolPass is up and running. Each school site is utilizing the system which monitors for offenses that include the inability to be present on a school campus. 3. We will hold 3 district-wide drills this year that will include practicing an Incident Command Center and will include practicing parent and community communication.

  • COVID-19 Protocols from Marin County Public Health - COVID-19 protocols for students and staff remain unchanged at this time. Last week, Marin County Public Health stated an anticipated change that would start in October.  Our local Public Health Officer shared that Marin County may move towards adopting the CDC's guidance for positive students that would standardize a required five days of isolation from the start of symptoms with return on Day 6 and mask use around others. This change would eliminate the requirement to test negative to exit isolation in less than ten days for students. Cal/OSHA regulations may necessitate different isolation requirements for staff. We will continue to monitor and communicate information as it is received by Marin County Public Health. For now, please remember that students and staff who test positive must provide evidence of a negative test on or after Day 6 to return to school in less than 10 days

  • Marin County COVID-19 Status Update: September 9, 2022

  • First Discussion / Negotiation with Larkspur Corte Madera (LCMSD) on Interdistrict Transfer (IDT) Topic - Representatives from RUSD and LCMSD met this week for the first of a series of discussions related to the topic of Interdistrict Transfers.  In June 2022, RUSD signed a 1-year extension for the 2017-2022 IDT MOU that provided funding for East Corte Madera families that live within RUSD boundaries to attend The Cove School in LCMSD under an approved IDT. At the first meeting, representatives provided background on District perspectives and came to a consensus on the agenda, structure of the meetings, norms, clarity on the related data, and the topics to be discussed moving forward. The discussions are scheduled to be completed by December 1st, 2022. Ongoing information will be shared as the process continues.

  • Field trips are Returning - Since COVID protocols have allowed, we have the exciting opportunity to bring back field trips and overnight stays for our students. We are excited for Mr. Sanchez’s class to be the first to kick off attendance at MOSAIC. We know our students will represent Reed well while they learn about Mutual respect, Open-mindedness, Self-respect, Attitude, Individuality, Community and skills needed for Conflict resolution.

  • Suicide Awareness Month - September is recognized as National Suicide Prevention Month. One of the primary reasons for a month-long recognition is to raise awareness about suicide.  Through awareness, we - individually and as a community - are more equipped to help prevent this tragedy with our youth.

Please find the below resources to share far and wide with your community. The more we all know about suicide, the more lives we can save.
