Dear Reed Families,
We had such a fantastic turn out for the Book Fair Family night last week, we can’t wait for this Thursday when we welcome the entire school community on campus for our annual Open House! We are busy little Raccoons around here; students are adding the final touches to projects, staff are adorning the walls with student work, and the Multi-Purpose Room is transforming into a colorful art gallery!
Important Open House reminders: - Open House begins with our 2nd Grade chorus performance at 5:30pm on the blacktop. Families of all grade levels are invited to enjoy this special performance!
- Doors will open to classrooms directly following the chorus performance, ~5:45pm-7:00pm. Teachers will provide families with a special check-list to guide you through the evening.
-
Don’t forget to visit the Multi-Purpose room to see our Art Show and view the PE Slideshow with highlights from the year! Please leave all artwork on the walls and boards-we will send them home with students on Friday after a special student-tour on Friday morning.
- DO take home your student's ceramics-which will be on display in the Art Room, Rm. 17.
-
DO supervise your children at all times; to ensure a safe and successful evening, students are expected to stay with their caregivers throughout the event.
Congratulations to our Golden Bells!
Every year, the Marin County Office of Education recognizes excellence and dedication to the educational profession by awarding outstanding and impactful educators the Golden Bell Award. I am thrilled to announce Reed School’s recipients this year, Ms. Kayla Casey, PreK Teacher, and Ms. Tina Warren, Paraprofessional and Special Education Instructional Assistant. We are so proud to celebrate them as part of our amazing Reed Team!
Welcome to Maestra Vasquez, teaching us Español! Already a proud Reed family, Ms. Vasquez now joins our classrooms each week, teaching Spanish vocabulary to our Raccoons. Classroom sessions are filled with music, movement, and beginning vocabulary lessons, all in Spanish. Please read the message below from Ms. Vasquez and learn about resources your family can explore at home!
Not Returning to Reed next year?
If your PreK, Kindergartener or 1st grader will not be returning to Reed School next year, please let the office know as soon as possible (reed@reedschools.org). This information is crucial in helping us plan for classroom configurations and appropriate levels of staffing.
Parent Education Opportunity: Screens, phones, AI—oh my!
Please join guest speaker Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith on April 29th at 10:30 am via zoom as she tackles the questions that keep so many of us up at night: How much screen time is too much? What's really happening with social media and our kids' mental health? And what can we do about AI? She'll walk through the current (and yes, controversial) science, create space for your real questions and concerns, and help you develop a practical plan for managing these issues at home. Please send along your questions, thoughts and resources via
this link or email our Director of Student Services, Mr. Brian Lynch - blynch@reedschools.org.

¡Bienvenidos a nuestra Clase de Español!
Dear families, my name is Cecilia Vásquez (Maestra Cecilia), and I’m excited to be your child’s Spanish teacher for the remainder of the year. I am from Chile and have a background in education and international programs, with experience teaching Spanish at the elementary level. I am also a parent in our community, with daughters at Reed and Bel Aire.
After the Spring break, we’ve been learning greetings and introductions (Hola, me llamo...¿cómo te llamas?), colors (azul, amarillo, rojo, verde, morado), and numbers (1 to 20) through songs, repetition, and engaging activities. I encourage you to practice these phrases at home and enjoy the songs together to reinforce learning. Here are some songs we have been practicing: |
Sing-a-Story Opera
once again returned to Reed School, thanks to our PTA! Sing-a-Story is a component of the SF Opera Guild's educational program - a teaching artist visits each classroom and leads students in a singing lesson and an interactive musical telling of a classic opera story.
The operas were: Many Voices of Cinderella (2nd grade), The Magic Flute (1st grade), and
Hansel & Gretel (PreK & K). Enjoy the photos below! |
Book Fair & Family Night! |
Volunteers Needed!
The district will be holding its largest ever celebration of the arts on Friday May 15, and volunteers are needed to make this event a success. Please consider donating a small amount of time or some food items by clicking here.
Everyone is welcome at this event to help the district celebrate its many artists. Raffle tickets will be available at the front door for $1 each and will help to support future events like this one. We have nearly $1,000 worth of gift card prizes. Everything else is free! |
Math Curriculum Home-to-School Connections:
We wanted to remind our RUSD community about the Caregiver Hub available for the Amplify Desmos Math curriculum. You can explore Unit Resources
by grade level including practice problems and refresh videos to do at home with your child. Make sure to talk about math in daily conversations and remind your student that getting stuck is part of the process and a necessary - beneficial even! - part of learning. Many students (and adults) fear making mistakes. But research shows that making mistakes helps our brains grow. When your student gets stuck on a problem, encourage them to keep trying different strategies, even if they’re not sure if they are right.
