Families,
As the flowers begin to bloom and the days grow longer, it is clear that Spring has officially arrived at our school! While the warmer weather and upcoming break bring a much-needed sense of excitement, this time of year also brings the "spring slide" where focus can naturally start to drift. I want to encourage you to sit down with your student and discuss the importance of finishing strong. With several key projects, assessments, and end-of-year activities on the horizon, staying motivated and maintaining a consistent study routine is more important now than ever. Let’s work together to keep our students energized and focused so they can finish the year feeling proud of everything they’ve accomplished.
Our 6th grade class went on a field trip last week to the Exploratorium in San Francisco, preceded by a stop at Presidio Tunnel Tops Park (pictures below). Students explored hands-on exhibits related to sound, motion, light, electricity, magnetism, psychology, optics, airflow and more. We are happy to offer these experiences to our students.
Our 8th grade class will be heading to Chabot Space and Science Center next Friday, April 3rd. Our 7th grade class will attend the Academy of Sciences on May 19th. We are looking forward to a happy and focused end of the school year. Let’s try to make it a great week and a half leading up to Spring Break! Warmly, Chad Stuart Principal |

By Leadership Students Shir-Linh M., Tala S. and Christopher B.
This week’s staff spotlight is Ms. Tuatagaloa, our 7th grade humanities teacher. Ms. Tuatagaloa was born in San Rafael and is the fourth generation of her family to do so. She has one younger brother named Russel, and grew up surrounded by many pets. Some of her current pets include a parrot, a bearded dragon named Mufasa, a retriever named Kona, and another dog named Henry. Ms. Tuatagaloa enjoyed horseback riding when she was younger. She also played soccer and was a gymnast growing up. Currently, she is happily married with three daughters, and of course, her horse named Miley.
Ms. Tuatagaloa originally wanted to be a dental assistant, but after having children she decided to become a teacher. She attended high school in San Rafael, and was in the ASB program, where she developed her love for leadership. She went to San Diego State for college, and got her teaching credential at San Domenico. Ms. Tuatagaloa has been a teacher for 20 years. Her first teaching roles were at Coleman Elementary School, and Brookside Elementary School in San Rafael, where she developed communication skills and passion for her students. She then transitioned to working at Bel Aire for five years, then to Del Mare for five years (and counting). Ms Tuatagaloa chose humanities after minoring in history during college, and still loves this complex and interesting subject today.
Ms. Tuatagaloa’s favorite part of teaching is building connections with her students, and learning how their minds work, as everyone learns differently. Ms. Tuatagaloa values her connection with students by having an open door policy, ensuring that everyone feels welcome at Del Mar. Ms. Tuatagaloa firmly believes that school is about pride and community, and not just striving for perfect grades. Her message to her 6th graders is to take a breath, and trust that everything will be okay.
Today Ms. Tuatagaloa still loves to horseback ride and enjoys listening to ‘big hair metal’ music, such as music from Metallica, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Ozzy Osbourne. Ms. Tuatagaloa is also a proud supporter of her community. She appreciates her local community by always purchasing goods from small businesses rather than global brands. Furthermore, Ms. Tuatagaloa loves her community in San Rafael, and maintains strong local connections. If she wasn't a teacher, Ms. Tuatagaloa would like to serve her community through her work.
To conclude, Ms. Tuatagaloa is a compassionate teacher at Del Mar who values deep connections with her students, and her community of San Rafael. Ms. Tuatagaloa always makes the time to promote kindness and hospitality, so if you see her around campus, make sure to show your appreciation! | 8th Grade Families: All the Graduation Details! Attendance Instructions/Leaving Early/Arriving Late |
Please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (435-1468, ext. 1) or email delmar@reedschools.org.
This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Absence does not excuse a student from the classroom assignment. All assignments are available on the teacher websites. It is the student's responsibility to check the websites and make up for missed work once they are healthy. Leaving School Early? Arriving Late? We want to avoid calling into any classroom! Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up for any reason, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If your child must leave in the middle of any class, please send your child with a note to give to the teacher so they can excuse themselves in the middle of class.
We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly! Any student leaving before the end of the day must be signed out by their parent or an authorized adult. | We Are Here For You! Staff Contacts | To locate teacher info click HERE
