Principal's Message

Families,

As we observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, we are reminded of Dr. King’s profound and lasting impact on our nation. Through his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement, he challenged the status quo, advocating for racial equality and justice. His vision for a more inclusive society continues to resonate, inspiring individuals across generations to stand up for what is right, to embrace diversity, and to work towards positive change. Dr. King's commitment to nonviolence and his message of love, peace, and service have helped shape the very fabric of our country, reminding us that each of us has the power to contribute to the greater good.

Here at Del Mar, we have successfully transitioned into the new year. Our students have been fully engaged in their learning and have had a positive presence on campus. One example was the participation in Breaking Down the Walls for our entire 7th grade class. Another example is last week’s Egypt project exhibit presentations from our 6th grade students - I was so impressed with all of our 6th graders. They did a terrific job on their work and presentations. Special thanks to our 6th grade humanities teachers, Mr. Sargent, Ms. McKay and Ms. Tuatagaloa, for helping to facilitate the project. We are off to a great start in 2026!

Warmly,

Chad Stuart
Principal

Youth Truth Family Survey (PLEASE DO!)

We want to hear from you!!!! Your input is valuable to us. Reed Union School District has partnered with the national nonprofit, YouthTruth, to help us hear feedback from you about what we are doing well, and how we can improve.

We currently have 30% of the Del Mar Families that have taken this survey. We would love to get more participation.

The YouthTruth Family survey will be open until January 30th and we want to hear from you!

PLEASE TAKE THIS 15 MINUTE ONLINE SURVEY HERE: ytsurvey.org/rusdfamily26

Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other parents/guardians throughout the district. You can complete the survey once per child if you have multiple children in the district, or just once if they have similar experiences. Thank you for your feedback! It is a gift that helps us continually improve.

Mid-Trimester Alerts and 1st Semester Elective Report Cards

Mid-Trimester Alerts

Mid-Trimester Alerts were made available for viewing yesterday. In lieu of progress alerts, our teaching staff has updated their gradebooks and provided specific feedback with regards to each student's habits of learning. If needed, please review this short video on how to access and review your student's progress in ALMA - it also includes some tips for parents on tracking student progress in ALMA. Should you need help accessing ALMA, please visit this site: https://help.reedschools.org/

Semester Elective Report Cards- for students who switched electives this week.

This year, many 7th and 8th grade students had semester electives which switched this week to a different elective. For those students, a report card will be available in ALMA by this Friday for their first semester elective.

Del Mar Basketball Games

Basketball season is here! Our 6th grade teams play games on Tuesdays, 7th grade on Wednesdays and 8th grade on Thursdays. The basketball schedule can be found HERE. While we encourage our students and parents to come support our teams, we expect them to be positive fans. This means, mainly, that students and parents should support our own Del Mar teams and not belittle or interact with our opponents or the game officials. We are using the same fan behavior guidelines adopted by the Marin County Athletic League for high schools, which can be viewed HERE.

Please note that students will be asked to leave the gym and will be subject to school consequences if they cannot maintain positive fan behavior at the games. In addition, if your child plans to attend a road game at another school facility as a fan, we ask that they be accompanied by an adult who can observe their behavior and can transport them home if the opposing gym’s supervisor asks them to leave for any reason.

Fan behavior is a reflection of our school. We ask that both parents and students stay positive and not engage with the opponents or game officials. It should be a fun atmosphere for all. Go Dragons!!!!

Nurse's Corner

A Note from our School Nurse:

As usual, respiratory and gastrointestinal viruses are spreading widely this time of year. The "new" flu strain for the 2025-2026 season is a highly evolved variant of Influenza A known as H3N2 subclade K, which emerged after vaccine composition was set, leading to a potentially less effective vaccine, but the vaccine still offers protection against severe illness.

Please remember a few tips to help keep your family and our schools healthy:

  • Keep your student home if they are feeling sick. Students must be without fever, vomiting and diarrhea for over 24 hours without medication before returning to school. They should also feel well enough to participate in all school activities.
  • Keep your family up to date on flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines (it’s not too late!), as well as childhood routine vaccines. If you or your child gets sick, check in with your medical provider in case they recommend testing and treatment.
  • Make sure your children get plenty of sleep each night (9-12 hours) and eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.
  • Read Dr. Matt Willis' newsletter for helpful updates about infectious disease activity and other public health news

Thank you for partnering with us to keep everyone healthy!

Mathletes

Congratulations to our Del Mar Mathletes! Our 7th grade team took 2nd place in the countywide Mathletes competition last week. Go Dragons!!!!!

Del Mar PTA News

RUSD PTA is seeking engaged PTA members to serve on the 2026 Nominating Committee for the PTA Executive Board. The committee will consist of five members and one alternate. Familiarity with all three school sites and their volunteer communities is preferred, but not required.

This is a short yet meaningful commitment, with meetings held in February and March, and the goal of presenting a final slate of candidates by late March. Serving on the Nominating Committee is a great way to support strong leadership and ensure continued success for our PTA.

👉 If you’re interested in participating or would like more information, please reach out to RUSD Parliamentarian Tracey Paull by January 30th.

PTA members interested in serving on the committee will be voted on by the PTA membership through a confidential online survey. To be eligible for consideration—or to cast a vote—members must be in good standing and current with their PTA dues. (It’s not too late, you can pay your PTA dues HERE).

Attendance Instructions/Leaving Early/Arriving Late

Please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (435-1468, ext. 1) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Absence does not excuse a student from the classroom assignment. All assignments are available on the teacher websites. It is the student's responsibility to check the websites and make up for missed work once they are healthy.

Leaving School Early? Arriving Late? We want to avoid calling into any classroom!

Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class.

If you need to pick your child up for any reason, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If your child must leave in the middle of any class, please send your child with a note to give to the teacher so they can excuse themselves in the middle of class. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly! Any student leaving before the end of the day must be signed out by their parent or an authorized adult.

We Are Here For You! Staff Contacts
