Dearest Reed School Families,
Happy Wednesday! Our entire team is looking forward to our annual Back to School Night tomorrow evening. Please remember…

Back to School Night Reminders (9/11, 5:30pm-7pm):
This event is an adult only evening where you have the opportunity to meet your child's teacher and learn about the year ahead. We will meet at 5:30pm in the multi-purpose room (near main gate) for important introductions and my principal message followed by classroom presentations at 6pm. We will also be using our fancy new Foundation for Reed Schools sponsored outdoor sound system to project into the lunch alcove area in anticipation of a full house. We will see you there!

Come Explore our New Math Curriculum
From 5:00-5:30pm before Back to School Night, our District Instructional Teacher on Special Assignment, Amy Smith, will be in our library to provide caregivers an opportunity to explore the newly adopted math curriculum your students will be using from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Breakfast and the Bus
As our littlest Raccoons learn how to board, buckle and ride the bus, we have experienced a few mornings where the buses have run a bit beyond schedule. Please know that we have systems in place to ensure students who want breakfast can get breakfast, either on their way up to classrooms or when their teacher asks if anyone missed breakfast service. The good news is the breakfasts are delicious and healthy, so it is our pleasure to make sure breakfasts are sent to the classrooms or available for snack time.

Tech Talk Principal Chat Next Tuesday
Please join Mrs. O’Connor for an informal caregiver-principal conversation on campus about technology on Tuesday, September 16th from 1:45-2:30pm. Topics for discussion will revolve around: What does technology as a tool look like at Reed School? How do we use it in the primary grades and what questions and concerns do our families have? You can add to the conversation even if you cannot be present by submitting questions using this form. Please RSVP to our informal conversation, show interest in our future Tech Use Group and/or add to the discussion by using the above link.

Bel Aire Mosaic Advisory Committee Invitation
Next week, on Wednesday, September 17th from 3:30-5:00pm, Bel Aire School will host the first meeting of the Mosaic Advisory Committee. This committee is an opportunity for families to share their perspectives and provide input on Bel Aire’s partnership with The Mosaic Project. If you are interested in participating, please contact Bel Aire Principal, John DiCosmo , at jdicosmo@reedschools.org. We welcome your voice and partnership in this important conversation.

Medications and Release Forms
If your child has any allergies, medical conditions or your pediatrician recommends medication/rescue medication for your student at school (ex: Epipen, inhalers), please drop off required forms and medications to the front office. If you have any questions, please reach out to our District Nurse, Alison Mankin, at amankin@reedschools.org.

I am looking forward to meeting the entire Reed School community tomorrow!

Warmly,
Aubrey O’Connor & Staff

Raising the Bar Survey

Raising the Bar is a county-wide initiative committed to keeping youth events substance-free through policy that prohibits adult drinking or drug use at youth-centered events. As a program of Marin Healthy Youth Partnerships, Raising the Bar works in collaboration with Marin Prevention Network, Marin County Office of Education, Marin Health and Human Services, Marin schools, youth sports teams and organizations and other local community based organizations. Together, we aim to shift norms around substance use and encourage healthy choices by promoting positive adult role modeling.

RUSD is working with Raising the Bar this Fall to support a parent survey to better understand perceptions and understanding of drinking and substance use among our community members. Below is a link to the anonymous survey. Please take a few minutes to fill this out and contribute to this very important work:

TOWNTASTIC
Towntastic is next week! Join us for a Reed community event with tradition!

For years, Reed students have made cardboard creations representing Tiburon and displayed them at this first school event of the year. This year, we’re adding lots of lawn games and a creation station for students who’d like to build their craft at the event.

Parent volunteers are what make this event so special! Please review the available volunteer slots HERE and help make the event a success by signing up. Thank you!

Walk & Roll Back to School

EVERY WEDNESDAY is Walk and Roll to School Day! Join thousands of Marin families who walk, park-and-walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus to school.

Wednesday October 8th is International Walk & Roll to School Day! We will have:

  • A bike train from Blackie’s Pasture to Reed School! Meet at 8am at the Blackie's Pasture bike repair station (near the restrooms), or join the train on the Old Rail Trail!
  • A welcome table in front of Reed School where the children will receive prizes for walking and rolling to school!

Parents, we need your help!

  • Click HERE to help lead our bike train
  • Click HERE to help distribute prizes at our welcome table

Kids who BUDDY UP this fall to walk (park and walk), bike, scooter, carpool, or ride the bus to school with friends - can be NOMINATED here for a chance to win the Buddy Up Challenge for a $50.00 gift card. Habits are more likely to form with students who travel in groups of 2 or more to school. Plus, there’s safety in numbers. The Buddy Up Challenge goes until October 31 , so get your buddy up group started and have fun with friends.

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found is already filling up — see what we have (as of last week) on our new Reed Lost & Found Album!

Pick up your child’s lost items from the rack near the front entry gate. All unclaimed items are donated at the end of every month, beginning in September. Help reunite your child and their gear by labeling it, especially water bottles, sweatshirts/sweaters, and jackets!

Reporting a Reed School Absence

All students are expected to attend school on a consistent and on-time basis. If your child is going to be tardy, absent, or leave school early for any reason, please be sure to email OR call and notify the office:

reedattendance@reedschools.org

(415) 435-7840  extension #1

Please Provide the Following Information:

  • First and last name of your child
  • Your relationship to the child
  • Teacher's name
  • The reason for the absence or tardy

Appointments
If you need to pick your child up for an appointment, come to the front office and we will call the classroom. We do not pull children ahead of time, so allow extra time for us to find them. As a courtesy to the teacher, please email them so they know your child will be leaving early that day.

RUSD Mission & Vision: Each student will be challenged and inspired to reach their fullest intellectual, social-emotional and creative potential to positively impact the world.
