Back to School Night ~ TOMORROW! (See all details below)

Back-to-School Night is tomorrow - Thursday, August 28th!  Back To School Night is A CHILD-FREE event!

Schedule:

4:45 - 5:00 pm  SHARP Tech Bootcamp (Alma & GoogleClassroom) in the Del Mar Gym:
We would like all 6th grade and new parents to come to a 15-minute session in the gym at 4:45 PM to learn how to navigate Alma & Google Classroom and to learn how our teachers provide feedback to the students. If you are not a 6th grade or new parent and you would like to have a refresher course on Alma and GoogleClassroom, you are welcome to attend that piece as well.

5:00 pm SHARP Introductory Information in our amphitheater:
Please come to the Del Mar amphitheater (outside of the gym) to hear all sorts of introductory information about Del Mar, led by principal Chad Stuart.

5:30 pm SHARP! Visit your child's classes - Periods 1-7, then Advisory.

We are asking that you bring a copy of your student’s schedule with you for the night. All students will fill out a schedule tomorrow during Advisory (linked HERE) to give to you at home, so please ask your student for a copy of that schedule tomorrow. You may also take a picture or a screenshot of your student’s MONDAY schedule from Alma (in order to do this, you will have to log on to your ALMA page. If you are having trouble logging in to ALMA as a parent please click HERE for instructions).

We will also have several students on campus, in colored blue shirts, who are available to direct you to the correct location if you need it. For your reference, HERE is a map of our campus.

Here is the schedule for the night:

Parent Homework for Back to School Night

Our teachers often receive questions about Standards-Based Grading and Assessment, as this approach to monitoring and reporting student progress can differ from traditional grading systems.

To help families better understand our practices, we ask that all parents view the following two videos prior to Back-to-School Night. These resources will provide an overview of how Standards-Based Grading works and how it supports student learning.

  • Del Mar Assessment, Feedback & Grading
  • Supporting Students

Supplies, Locks, PE Uniforms, iPads

Students should have received various supplies at this point. Please encourage your student to head to the office if they have any concerns or needs regarding any of their supplies.

While state law does not allow school districts to charge fees to students for educational activities, we would appreciate a donation to help support supply expenditures. All contributions are voluntary and all students will be given supplies whether you donate or not. A voluntary donation of up to $35.00 is appreciated but not required, to help defray costs of the supplies. The donation can be paid in cash or a check made out to “RUSD” at the school office, or use this SchoolPay link if you’d like to donate on-line.

Cell Phones/Smart Watches-Stay in LOCKERS!

If your student has a phone or smart watch, it will need to be powered off and left in your student's locker during school hours. Smart watches and cell phones are not allowed in any classroom.

PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD LABEL EVERYTHING!! YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY UNLABELED LOST AND FOUND ITEMS WE ACCUMULATE OVER THE YEAR!

Universal Breakfast/Lunch Program...Plus

Water Bottle and Snack Reminder!

Please remind your student to dispose of their trash properly. Breakfasts are served out of the office before school (from 7:45 am-8:05 am) and at the first break only if anything is leftover. Lunch is served out of the gym’s kitchen windows at lunchtime.

If you have questions or concerns about the lunch program, please contact delmar@reedschools.org

Please be patient as we work with our new vendor, Dee's Organics. Despite a few minor glitches, the students seem to be enjoying the food!

Breakfasts vary each day-sandwiches, breads, burritos, yogurts, milk and fruit. Below are the August and September lunch menus:

Water: Please send your student to school with a filled, LABELED water bottle every day! It can get very hot at Del Mar, and the students seem to prefer water bottles to water fountains. We have a bottle filling station near our locker rooms and in the quad area near the office.

Snacks: Please send your child with snacks if they need a pick-me-up during break times. The DelMarket will open up during break after a few weeks, at which point some snack items will be for sale for $1.00 cash.

**Calling all volunteers!!!*** Volunteers are  needed to make the distribution of lunches run smoothly! Please go to THIS LINK if you are willing to help us distribute lunches. Many thanks to the volunteers who have been helping these first few weeks!

No GrubHub, UberEats or DoorDash : Please do not have GrubHub, UberEats, DoorDash or other food deliveries sent to our campus. This became problematic in the past, with unregistered people walking on campus, and it also created distractions to our students and staff.

Dropping off Lunches: Parents are welcome to drop off forgotten lunches for their students outside the office. Please note that we offer free lunch every day on campus, so if your child forgets to bring lunch, they are welcome to have a school lunch.  If you are dropping lunch off for your child, please use the blue shelves outside the office and be sure the lunch is well labeled. Also remind your child to look there for lunch. We do not call into classrooms about dropped off lunches. Please tell your child to check on their own!

Attendance Instructions/Leaving Early/Arriving Late

Please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (435-1468, ext. 1) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Absence does not excuse a student from the classroom assignment. All assignments are available on the teacher websites. It is the student's responsibility to check the websites and make up for missed work once they are healthy.

Leaving School Early? Arriving Late? We want to avoid calling into any classroom!

Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class.

If you need to pick your child up for any reason, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If your child must leave in the middle of any class, please send your child with a note to give to the teacher so they can excuse themselves in the middle of class. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly! Any student leaving before the end of the day must be signed out by their parent or an authorized adult.
