2024-2025 Reed School Calendar

2025-2026 Reed School Calendar

Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,

We look forward to welcoming all our Reed families for Open House tomorrow night—Thursday, May 1st. This is your child’s night to shine and to share with you some of their many accomplishments. Teachers will have a family check-list to guide you through this special evening. Before heading to your child’s classroom, families are invited to the blacktop for a special Open House performance by the 2nd grade choir. The choir will sing a few songs they have been practicing in preparation for this big night! Classrooms will be open directly after the performance (5:40pm-7:00pm). *To ensure a safe and successful evening, students and siblings must remain with caregivers at all times.
Warmly,
Mary Niesyn & Staff

Specialist Corner: Music Note from Ms. Balfe

At the beginning of April, the kindergarteners shared some of their favorite songs with their parents and guardians in their spring performance. Each of the kindergarten classes also has chosen one of their performance songs to present during our weekly Community Time. Most recently, Ms. Morphy's class shared the song Seed In The Ground . All of this is very inspirational for our PreK students who are excited to present songs to their families at their 8:30am performance on June 4th in Reed's MPR.

Depending on the age of your child(ren), some of the songs you may have been hearing around your house in recent weeks include: Old Mr. Rabbit (game), Chickery Chick, Take Me Out to the Ballgame and Down by the Bay . PreK and kindergarteners listened to the story (and song) "Music Is In Everything" by Ziggy Marley. This book encourages us to be curious and hear the music in nature. It also encourages us to find ways of creating instruments at home in the kitchen. 1st and 2nd graders have been playing a beat-passing game Apple Tree and adding the beat on xylophones to the song. The melody to this song is being discovered and practiced by 2nd graders as well.

Our 2nd grade Chorus, which is an 'opt-in' lunch-time club, is looking forward to sharing a few songs with all of you at Open House on May 1st. We will be performing at 5:30pm on the blacktop behind the front office. Hope to see you there!
