Additional Steps to an Improved Food Service Solution

As part of our efforts to enhance food service, we conducted a tasting event on Thursday with five different vendors. We are proceeding with the evaluation process and hope to have an improved solution available in the fall.

Tiburon OKs limits for youths on e-bikes

Tiburon has preliminarily approved an ordinance that prohibits individuals under 16 from riding throttled class 2 electric bicycles within the town. This decision aligns with a new state law and a similar ordinance passed by Marin County, aiming to improve youth safety and reduce e-bike related injuries. Negotiations with RDTA

RDTA agreed to a 5% increase for the 2025-2026 school year and a 3% increase for the 2026-2027 school year. RDTA will bring a tentative agreement to their membership for a vote. The district board of trustees will vote to ratify the tentative agreement once approved by RDTA.

The Board of Trustees reviewed the following items at the RUSD Board Meeting on April 15:

  • Board of Trustees Update – The Board of Trustees welcomed the New Reed Elementary Principal, Ms. Aubrey O’Connor.  Trustees also shared information about the meetings and activities they have attended including, Read Across Reed, Reed Principal interviews, Changing Perspectives parent education, MCOE meeting with Jared Huffman, The Ranch board meeting, JLAC and legislative updates, and transportation JPA meetings.
  • Information from the Administrative Team – Bel Aire Elementary Principal Mr. John DiCosmo shared an exciting update on the experiential field trips and assembles taking place at Bel Aire.  Some examples include author and guest visits from Paleotechnics, Anne Rovetta Storytelling, ZunZun Water Assembly, and Walk Through the American Revolution; local trips to Ring Mountain, Tiburon Landmarks, Railroad & Ferry Museum, China Camp, Fish Release at Lagunitas, Marin Symphony, and the new Call of the Sea Trip; overnight trips including MOSAIC and Walker Creek, and so much more!
  • Superintendent Update – District Superintendent Dr. Kimberly McGrath provided updates on the upcoming strategic planning collaborative, budget advisory meeting, LCAP survey and advisory meeting, prospective food vendor tasting event including 5 vendors, negotiations update, and federal and state communications.
  • Math Action Plan Update – Coordinator of Educational Services Ms. Nicole Trickett presented an update on the implementation of the Math Task Force Action Plan, including the most recent Math Pilot across 6 grade levels (PreK-5) and the unanimous decision to recommend Amplify Desmos Math for the PreK-5 curriculum for Board approval.
  • Enrollment Update – Chief Business Official Dr. Chris Kim presented updated information on the enrollment projections for the 2025-2026 school year, projecting a slight decline in enrollment over the next 3-years.
  • Approval of Reading Difficulties Screener – Coordinator of Educational Services Ms. Nicole Trickett presented information regarding the Cal Ed Code required screening and recommended mCLASS DIBELS Reading Difficulties Screener for use within the District to allow for early identification and intervention of reading difficulties for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2. The Board approved the screener for implementation in the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Approval of Transportation JPA Bike Lane Opposition Letter – RUSD Superintendent Dr. Kimberly McGrath presented information on CalTrans' plans to build bike lanes that will impact four existing bus stops on Tiburon Boulevard between Blackfield Drive and Trestle Glen Boulevard. A letter of concern was drafted and adopted by the RUSD Board of Trustees for submission to CalTrans.
  • Approval of May 5th – 9th Week of the Employee – The Board of Trustees adopted the resolution to recognize all Administrative, Certificated, and Classified employees, designating the week of May 5th – 9th 2025, as the Week of the School Employee to honor and thank them for their service.

The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday May 13, 2025.
