Last Day of School Friday, June 13 (12:00pm dismissal) | Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful spring break. As always, Reed students jumped right back into action and are participating in an array of activities and special events. A very special surprise was unveiled to our staff and students on Monday morning by our PTA Site Chair, Michelle Thomsen. She presented our new outdoor classroom (be sure to look at photos below). Funding was provided by the
Belvedere Community Foundation and the Tiburon Peninsula Foundation. I am so grateful for the collaboration amongst our PTA, our staff, our maintenance team, and our community foundations for this incredible surprise!
In the weeks leading up to spring holiday, Reed students enjoyed visiting the Reed School Book Fair & Family Night, our kindergarten students delighted families and friends with an AMAZING music performance, and all our students engaged in a schoolwide handshake challenge during Community Time Buddies. This week our PreK classes enjoyed a visit from the Marin Humane Society, our 1st grade had a visit from the Marin/Sonoma Vector Control, and our 2nd grade had their third poetry lesson through the PTA sponsored Pseads program. As you can see, we are busier than ever! Please take a look below for photos of all the fun.
Warmly, Mary Niesyn & Staff New Outdoor Classroom Reed students enjoyed learning in the new outdoor classroom...moments after the unveiling! |

Community Time Buddies • Handshake Challenge
As an extension to our weekly Community Time assemblies, Reed School students participate in Community Time Buddies. During Community Time Buddies, two mixed- grade level classes and several staff members join together and do a schoolwide activity/lesson. Students were challenged to create a 10-12 step special handshake with their buddy inspired by a previous lesson with Mr. Nettell. It certainly was a delight to walk through classrooms and see students of all ages working together.

Specialist Corner: Art Note from Ms. Caldwell Art is back at Reed! PreK has been exploring Stabilo
pencils and using water brushes to blend colors. In kindergarten, we are starting a new project tearing paper to make snails. This project builds fine motor skills and develops pattern making. First grade is making lighthouses with color pencils and learning to blend colors, introducing perspective and horizon lines. Second grade is working on The Great Wave
inspired by the woodblock master, Hokusai. It will be a mixed media project using tempera paint and watercolor. I am extremely proud of their dedication to their artwork and the development of their artistic skills. |
Reed Book Donation Drive April 21-25
It's time for our annual book donation drive to benefit The Book Exchange of Marin! The Book Exchange connects kids and teens from Marin's most under-resourced communities to books - a terrific community-service organization that needs our support. Our goal is to donate 5000 books this year, which is an average of 13 books per student.
It's a big goal, but not too far from what we have delivered in the past! The Need for Children and Teens: Fiction, story books, chapter books, learning/easy readers, dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks and test prep books for teens. Please, no adult books or cookbooks. The Ask:
Drop books in the bins placed in front of the main entry to school and front office during the week of April 21-25. If you would like more information, please visit https://www.bookexchangemarin.org/ or email Kim Meek (kmeekfi@gmail.com), Krupa Antani (krupapantani@gmail.com
