New Principal Announcement

RUSD Staff and Community Members,

It is with great pleasure that we share exciting news regarding the new principal of Reed Elementary. Following the retirement of our deeply respected principal, Dr. Mary Niesyn, we have conducted a comprehensive search to identify an exceptional individual to continue to lead us forward.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new principal, Ms. Aubrey O’Connor. Ms. O’Connor began her career in education 24 years ago as a 5th-grade teacher in the Mill Valley School District. After many years teaching upper elementary grades, Ms. O’Connor transitioned to Transitional Kindergarten, where she continued to focus on child development and age-appropriate instruction while nurturing the youngest learners.

Over the past seven years, she has served as both an assistant principal and principal in Mill Valley. In every role, Ms. O’Connor is known for building strong relationships, academic achievement, and fostering supportive school communities. She brings to Reed a deep commitment to student-centered decision-making.

Ms. O’Connor brings a profound understanding of our local community, cultivated through engagement and experience. Furthermore, her extensive tenure as a principal is marked by a proven record of effective leadership and positive impact. She comes highly recommended by colleagues and supervisors alike, and her performance throughout the rigorous interview process was exemplary.

Ms. O'Connor earned her B.A. and Teaching Credential from the University of San Diego and her M.A. in Educational Administration and Leadership from San Francisco State University.

She has three children, Maizie, Adelaide, and Malachy, who keep her busy and entertained. She spends many afternoons and weekends driving them to and cheering them on at their various sporting events.

The successful culmination of this important undertaking is a direct result of the dedicated participation of numerous stakeholders. We extend our sincere gratitude to the School Board for their guidance and commitment, to our staff for their thoughtful insights, to our parents for their valuable perspectives, and to our community members for their continued support throughout this process. Your involvement has been instrumental in ensuring a positive outcome. “We are even stronger together.”

We now extend a warm welcome to our new principal. She will be introduced to the Board and community at the Board meeting tomorrow night, and we anticipate the Board’s approval. We are confident that her positive spirit, experience and dedication will be invaluable assets to our school district, and we eagerly anticipate the positive contributions she will make to our students and community.
