Reed Open House Thursday, May 1 from 5:30pm - 7:00pm | Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,
It is hard to believe that Trimester 2 has come to a close. Over the past few weeks, teachers have been busy assessing students both individually and in small groups to measure student growth. An email with your child’s report card will be sent to you the afternoon of Friday, March 14 sharing your child’s progress to date. Be sure to view their report card from a growth mindset
and celebrate their hard work and effort. We look forward to a busy and exciting final trimester. Students frequently demonstrate much growth both academically and emotionally throughout Trimester 3. It is a time when students consolidate their learning and skills; routines become more automatic. At this time of the school year, we often see boosts in their independence and self-confidence and hope you do too! Warmly, Mary Niesyn & Staff |
Last Wednesday a new group of Del Mar Leadership students visited Reed School. These amazing middle school leaders will be coming to Reed on a biweekly basis to support students across the entire campus in classrooms, during recess, at snack time, and in specialist classes. We are lucky to have such great role models on campus! |
Specialist Corner: Library Note from Mrs. Smith
Reed Raccoons have had a busy winter in the school library! Students learned all about the annual Caldecott medal awarded to several picture books each January, and Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students participated in a mock Caldecott election. After wrapping up studying the illustrations in our potential Caldecott winners, we highlighted wordless picture books. These make for incredible storytelling and allow students to stretch their imaginations, while writing their own version of what is happening across the pages since there are no words. Some of our favorites include
Flotsam and the Journey trilogy. In 2nd grade, students studied street art inspired by our read aloud Off the Wall and created some beautiful art currently on display in the library. |
Students across the classes are enjoying some new sensory tools thanks to our Dedication to Special Education grant. |
Grade levels are learning about a variety of different women this month and our displays are filled to the brim with incredible inspiration! March brings a new month of celebrations and the start of spring, as well as research projects and more creating in the library space. |
