If you couldn't make it, here's the link to the parent ed articles we have compiled and the slides that we shared. One parent had an excellent question about how we teach students about digital citizenship and responsible use of technology. These topics, plus many more relevant technology-related areas, are taught in our weekly library classes led by Ms. Brigulio. For example, each grade level will have a differentiated lesson about online privacy and safety. Students read a text that illustrates the main idea, and then they collaborate on a product that they share with the class. We were thrilled to see several of our Junior Coach student leaders present at the RUSD Board meeting last night. Their confident and articulate responses in front of a large group of adults were inspiring. We are all proud of them for representing our school and sharing about our successful Junior Coach program. Well done, Hadley, Miles, Garrett, and Luna! Lsstly, I would like to extend a special thank you to Nicole Hindley and Cub Scout Pack 48 for their contribution to the meeting. Their leadership in conducting the flag ceremony added a sense of respect and unity to the meeting. Sincerely, Principal John DiCosmo | Dr. Madeline Levine - Join Us! | Dear Parents/Caregivers: We are excited to invite you to an upcoming virtual event featuring renowned psychologist and New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Madeline Levine. Join us for an engaging discussion on "Preparing Our Kids to Thrive in an Uncertain & Rapidly Changing World" as Dr. Levine addresses the unique challenges our children face today. In this session, Dr. Levine will explore the demands stemming from today's competitive environment, the impact of social media engagement, and the implications of constant device dependency. She will shed light on how these factors heighten the pressure on our children regarding academic performance and achievement. Drawing from her extensive research and experience, Dr. Levine will offer effective, evidence-based strategies to help parents, caregivers and educators nurture resilient, motivated children who can thrive in this complex landscape and achieve their goals. There are two offerings this school year: Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 6:30 – 7:30pm (Virtual) or Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 6:30 – 7:30pm (Virtual) REGISTER HERE. | 5th Grade Day of the Dead Ofrenda Walk-Through | Event: Parent / Guardian Day of the Dead Ofrenda Walk-Through When: Friday, November 8, 7:55 - 10:20 am Where: Bel Aire Library Who: Parents & Guardians of 5th graders | Youth Truth Student & Family Surveys | Later this month, Bel Aire students, staff, and families will have the opportunity to share their voices via the Youth Truth survey. The parent survey will be sent via email, and students will complete the survey online in their classes. The survey usually takes about 15-20 minutes. The YouthTruth Student Survey is a nationally recognized survey used in hundreds of schools and districts across the country, surveying hundreds of thousands of students. The survey asks students about their experiences in the school and with their teachers, including how engaged they are at school, the rigor of their coursework, and their preparedness for the future. Our school, other schools, and researchers may use such information for developing plans to help schools and teachers improve. Although we want to hear from all students, participation in this survey is voluntary. If you would like to opt-out your child, please email Mr. DiCosmo: jdicosmo@reedschools.org Your child’s ratings will not be identified in any reports because results are shared at the group level. Personally identifiable information will not be released to any third party. Caregivers are welcome to come to the Bel Aire office view the student questions.
