Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,
It was really wonderful to see so many Reed families and caregivers at our Back to School Night last Thursday evening. A strong sense of community, enthusiasm, and joy permeated the entire campus. To continue the theme of building community, we hope to see families this Thursday night between 5pm-7pm at our annual PTA sponsored Reed Towntastic. The evening is a highlight of the year and a great way to meet new families and establish new relationships within our community. Hope to see you there!
Warmly, Mary Niesyn & Staff

Specialist Corner: Art Note from Ms. Caldwell
Art is off to a great start. We have finished our first projects and are moving on. As the year progresses, the complexity and skills expand as we make progress. PreK is working on watercolor and and tempera paintings of their hand prints. They are just adorable and will be a project keeper. Kindergarten is making a watercolor collage and learning how to use watercolors properly. First grade is beginning to make ladybugs out of ink and watercolor on beautiful watercolor paper. Second grade is currently working on perspective trees with watercolor, ink, and watercolor paper. I am impressed with their dedication and enthusiasm for art and the peace and joy it brings to school.

Community Time:
As an extension to our weekly Community Time assemblies, Reed School has begun monthly Community Time Buddies. During Community Time Buddies, two classes and several staff members join together and do a schoolwide activity/lesson. Last week our focus was “getting to know our new buddies.” It certainly was a delight to walk through classrooms and see students of all ages working together.

Let’s Make our Streets Safer for Everyone!
From September 23 through November 15, you will again see bright and colorful banners and lawn signs popping up all over Marin asking people to keep their “Eyes Up” and be alert. These signs will ask drivers to slow down, watch when turning and look for pedestrians in the crosswalk; bicyclists to yield to pedestrians and to follow the rules of the road; And those walking to pay attention when crossing the street.
These messages will also show up in your social media feeds, and you can find them at www.streetsmartsmarin.org. Please share with your friends, family and co-workers!
To get a free lawn sign for your yard, contact your local municipality. There is a tab on the www.streetsmartsmarin.org website that has this information.
