Principal News

Dear Bel Aire Families,

Does this sound familiar? You ask your child, "How was school today?" and they respond, "Good" or "Fine." Then, they are ready to move on to ask for a snack or to go outside. Maybe you are lucky and have a car ride chatterbox on your hands or a night-time talker. But for many curious parents, it can be hard to know what happens in a given school day from a child's perspective.

I wanted to share a few questions that you can add to your daily routine. With slight wording modifications, these questions can work with children of all ages:

  • Tell me about a moment today when you felt excited about what you were learning.
  • Did anything funny happen today?
  • What did you do during recess?
  • What’s a question you have that came from your learning today?
  • Were there times today when you felt that one of your classmates demonstrated care for you?
  • Were there any moments today when you felt proud of yourself?
  • Tell me about a conversation you had with a classmate or friend that you enjoyed.
  • What was challenging about your day?
  • What do you appreciate about your day?
  • What did you learn about yourself today?
  • What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
  • Is there a question you wish I’d ask you about your day?

If you want to learn more, check out this article by educator and teacher-coach, Elena Aguilar.

Design Lab News

Design Lab Club is Back!

Back by popular demand, we are happy to announce the Design Lab Club will continue this year!

Design Lab Club will be during lunch recess, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Our Design Lab Program and clubs are for grades 3 through 5 designed to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning through integration and hands-on experiences in:

Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Students engage in dynamic, project-based learning that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Please email Mrs. Commesso, kcommesso@reedschools.org if you have a passion or profession that you would like to share with our students.

Please email if you are looking to get rid of anything you no longer need that you think would be great construction or destruction material for the students.

4th and 5th Grade Design Lab Cell Biology

Explore Mother Nature's Designs
Students had the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of cells through a compound light microscope.  Using the scientific method, students observed the structure and function of cells, as well as the key differences between animal and plant cells.  They prepared their own cheek cell slides and wrote up their first lab!
This real world, hands-on activity fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.

Third Grade Structural Engineers

Third graders are using our BluePrint Kits to design iconic Skyscrapers, working fishing poles and pulley prototypes. The Blueprintnkits allow students to explore basic structural and mechanical engineering concepts while designing and building prototypes.

Thank you, Foundation for Reed Schools, for the microscopes and for your continued support!
