Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,
A HUGE thank you goes out to our entire Reed School community—students, staff, parents, and caregivers for a fantastic first week of school. Reed students are doing an amazing job learning new routines, making new friends, and participating in a wide array of new learning activities both in the classroom and across the campus. I am especially proud of how safely students are playing during morning and afternoon recess; way to go Reed Raccoons!
Speaking of busy school days, in addition to participating in new classroom routines and activities, Reed Raccoons have jumped right into lessons with our amazing specialists thanks to the support of our generous Foundation for Reed Schools. Each week, every Reed student participates in music, PE, library, art, and Spanish. The photos below share a glimpse of specialist lessons that students have enjoyed beginning day one!
With all the excitement that a new school year brings, please know that it is very normal for your child to feel exhausted by the end of the school day. During these initial first weeks of school you may want to consider limiting after school activities and providing a little extra quiet time in the late afternoons or just before bed. This extra downtime will help your child decompress and restore from the busy school day.
Lastly, on behalf of the entire Reed staff, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our families and caregivers for your patience and understanding as we support students in learning afternoon pickup routines. Each afternoon we work collaboratively to ensure that each one of our 370 Reed Raccoons are reunited with family and/or transition safely to after school care and activities. You can support our collective effort by reviewing the procedures below:
Backtop Pick Up: Please have your pink Reed ID tag ready to show the staff member at the gate and proceed to your child’s classroom # spot painted on the playground (alongside the field). Please do not wait for your child in the breezeway as our PreK and kindergarten students are using this pathway to get to the carline.
Afternoon Carline: Please have your name placard in a highly visible spot on your dashboard. Remain in your car and a staff member will assist your child into your car. Please make certain that carseats are located on the right side of your car. Please look for an opportunity to teach your child how to buckle up their seatbelt. This will save time in the loading up process. Again, thank you for your patience as we all learn to safely navigate the carline. Our collective efforts will lead toward a safe and efficient process!
Warmly,
Mary Niesyn & Staff
PreK Students Learning How to Safely Ride a Bus
Today our PreK bus riders practiced lining up, checking in, sharing their full name with the bus supervisor, boarding the bus, and buckling up - all by themselves! These important steps help the students build independence while creating efficient and safe boarding procedures. Our kindergarten students will practice these same skills on Friday. We encourage you to reinforce practicing buckling seat belts at home. We are certain that our bus lines will become noticeably smoother. We are so proud of our youngest Reed Raccoons!
