Dear Reed Families & Caregivers,
Spring continues to be a busy time at Reed School. Last week’s Color Day brightened the campus and created smiles all around. Yesterday, our entire school enjoyed a fantastic music assembly with a joint performance given by the Bel Aire Chorus & Percussion Ensemble and our Reed School 2nd Grade Chorus. A HUGE thank you goes out to our amazing Foundation supported music educators, Mr. Jeb Gist and Ms. Carolyn Balfe, for creating this spectacular opportunity for our students.
Next week we look forward to welcoming all our Reed families for Open House. The event takes place on May 2nd between 5:30-7pm. This is your child’s night to shine and to share with you some of their many accomplishments. Teachers will have a family check-list to guide you through this special evening. Before heading to your child’s classroom, families are invited to the blacktop for a special Open House performance by the 2nd grade choir. The choir will sing a few songs they have been practicing in preparation for this big night! Classrooms will be open directly after the performance.*To ensure a safe and successful evening, students and siblings must remain with caregivers at all times. Warmly, Mary Niesyn & Staff

Marin County Superintendent of Schools John Carroll Visits Reed School!
Reed School enjoyed a visit by John Carroll (below right photo) yesterday. He came to observe our Pseads Poetry guests leading a 2nd grade class in a poetry workshop. (The Pseads program was graciously sponsored by our district PTA). The students wrote their own poems with guidance from the three poets in the program.

Specialist Corner: Art Note from Ms. Caldwell
We are finishing up another clay project! Working with clay is a wonderful way for students to develop their fine motor skills. PreK students made decorated hearts, kindergarteners made bears, 1st graders made fish, and 2nd graders made miniature food plates inspired by the work of Wayne Thiebaud. In addition to creating their grade-level projects, students were given extra time to play with the clay. Your student may pick up their class project during Open House in the Art Room 27. I am so proud of their work and progress in art this year.
