I’m excited to announce that Nicole Trickett will be our new Coordinator of Educational Services. We are so excited about bringing her instructional and curriculum knowledge to RUSD! She will begin on a part-time basis for this school year as she fulfills her instructional coaching commitments for the rest of the school year. Then, she’ll begin full-time with us as of July 1st. See below for more detailed information about Mrs. Trickett.

- April 23rd is Bus Driver Appreciation Day - Big thanks to our bus drivers for taking such great care of our kids, and for being the first smile they see each day. Thank you!
- Strategic Planning - thank you for the thoughtful feedback throughout our process. Below, you can find a pattern of some of the high-level feedback we’ve received.
- PTA Parent Education Tonight - Come join us for a class led by Marriage and Family therapist Polly Ely on Relaxed Leadership (for parents of kids ages 3-10). The balance between being loving and being in charge can be struck with turn-by-turn instructions on how to stay grounded while learning to become a relaxed leader. Register here for this free event.
- Personal Update - Tomorrow, April 18th, I am undergoing my (hopefully) final surgery. I look forward to returning on May 13th. Thank you so much for your kindness and support!

Coordinator of Educational Services - Nicole Trickett, MEd, is a passionate educator and strategic leader with 16 years of experience in the field of education driving positive outcomes and focused on student-centered planning. She is also a proud mother of two energetic and curious boys. She started her educational career as a Teach for America corps member where she completed her training teaching preschool and then became a middle school special education teacher with the San Francisco Unified School District. After taking on various leadership positions at her site, she transitioned into the role of a teacher coach where she supported teachers and administrators across the district with student planning, specialized services, and universal design. She then pursued her administrative credential and became a special education administrator spearheading program development and implementation. Her leadership journey led her back to a middle school site where she served as the assistant principal overseeing curriculum and instruction and then progressed into the role of middle school principal. She then became the Chief Educational Officer at a health technology start-up leading educational partnerships, piloting projects, and supervising curriculum development and product design. She is currently working as an instructional and leadership coach, mentoring educators to grow as practitioners and improve student outcomes. Nicole Trickett is committed to transforming mindsets and designing services and programs that meet individual student needs and help them to thrive. She is skilled in strategic planning grounded in feedback and data analysis, building partnerships to support engagement and collaboration across differences, designing adult learning experiences, and creating rigorous and caring school communities. She is excited to join Reed Union School District as the Coordinator of Educational Services where she can share her instructional knowledge, build lasting frameworks and innovative models, and learn from the community that she serves.

The Board of Trustees reviewed the following items at the RUSD Board Meeting on April 16:
- Report from the Belvedere Tiburon Library – Ms. Crystal Duran provided information regarding the library's strategic plan.
- Introduction of the New Coordinator of Educational Services – Ms. Nicole Trickett and her family were introduced.
- Board of Trustees Update – The Board of Trustees welcomed everyone back from Spring Break and reported on events that they have attended, including the Del Mar Pixels and Paint event at the library, Read Across Reed, the Bel Aire and Del Mar plays, and the JLAC meeting. Board members reported that PreK students will be able to ride the bus next year, that the Ranch board reports a strong tutoring program at all three school sites, and that the E2 collaborative will explore options for farms-to-school food delivery programs in Marin. Board members also thanked the PTA and Ms. Christine Derby for their work on putting on Bel Aire and Del Mar plays.
- Superintendent Update – District Superintendent Dr. Kimberly McGrath reported that both Chief Business Official Mr. Carlos Estrella and Accounts Payable and Receivable Accountant Ms. Charlesetta Smith will retire this year, Ms. Trickett had been hired as Coordinator of Educational Services, that a draft of the strategic plan will be presented in May, and professional development for all three school sites will include work on inclusion practices next year.
- Presentation of Draft Spanish Task Force – Del Mar student Hugo and Mr. Jay Rhodes reported on the development of the draft Spanish task force and some of the recommendations, including hiring an additional elementary instructor, expanding cross-curricular activities, growing Spanish exposure as students move through the elementary years, increasing field trips, and expanding volunteer opportunities for community members.
- Enrollment Report – Chief Business Official Mr. Carlos Estrella presented current enrollment information and projections for the 2024-2025 school year, including the possible addition of a Spanish instructor at Reed Elementary.
- Approval of the Week of the School Employee – The Board designated the week of May 6-10, 2024 as the Week of the School Employee to thank all employees for their service.
- 3D Strategies Real Estate Broker Presentation – Mr. Dominic Dutra and Ms. Kelly Rem made a presentation regarding how the process for determining school property to be surplus and how surplus property might be put to work for the district.
The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for May 14, 2024.
