Happy Summer!

First Day of School
Thursday, August 24

Dear Reed Families & Caregivers,
With the excitement of summer holiday only a few weeks away, it is common to find ourselves focused on what is to come. While we do share in the anticipation of all that summer brings, we find that many students can feel unsettled with change on the horizon. Young students are most successful when we all communicate clear expectations and routines that are grounded in the present moment. You can help your child remain focused and engaged at school by taking time to talk with them about their day. This sends a message to your child that today is important and every day counts! Please also make every effort to adhere to regular bedtime routines so your child is well-rested and ready for each day!
Warmly,
Mary Niesyn & Staff
Important Reminder for Parents & Caregivers: After School Pick Up on the Playground
To alleviate the congestion at the front gate and to ensure student safety, please be reminded to wait for your child on the blacktop near their student line when picking up your child after school. Staff will continue to direct students to wait for caregivers on the blacktop. Thank you very much for your cooperation!
Mark Your Calendar - June 9 is a Minimum Day (12:00pm dismissal)
The last day of school is June 9. Dismissal time is 12:00pm. Bus service will be available. PreK school lunch will be available and served within the school day. School lunch for Kindergarten-2nd grade students will be available “to-go”. Please be certain to send a healthy snack for your student, as usual.
A Note from Mrs. Smith in the Library
Let's locate those missing school library books! Mrs. Smith has picked up recent returns to the Belvedere-Tiburon public library and combed the shelves. If your child still has a book checked out under their name, it is $20 to replace a book, per school policy. Please send in cash, so you can be reimbursed easily if the book does turn up over the summer or early next school year. Please refrain from purchasing the book from another source, as it needs to be ordered through our vendor for proper replacement and accurate cataloging. (The book will get sent back home with your student).
Things do happen and books get swapped between school and arriving home, or shelved in/moved to the wrong location, so thank you for your flexibility and understanding. Please reach out with any questions to lsmith@reedschools.org

Kindergarten Safety Day
The entire kindergarten team learned all about home and school safety from members of our local police, fire, and city public works departments. Students in every grade level had an opportunity to meet and talk to these important members of the community before the kindergarten presentation. It certainly was an exciting morning at Reed School!

Reed 2nd Grade Students visited Bel Aire
Today the 2nd graders and their teachers visited Bel Aire in preparation for their transition to 3rd grade. Students had a chance to visit classrooms, experience recess, meet staff, and get a glimpse of life as a 3rd grader!

Message from Reed's Equity & Inclusion Department
Throughout the year, Reed students have engaged in activities, discussions and projects focusing on developing empathy and respect for all. By partnering with another grade level class, students are building meaningful connections and relationships with peers.

Bus Pass Announcement from the Yellow Bus Program
We are pleased to announce that annual bus passes for next year are on sale at www.buschallenge.org. A few notes before you make your purchase:
- The bus program is designed to provide neighborhood-to-school service. You can view maps of next year’s routes and individual stops by visiting this link and clicking on your selected school (routes, stops, and timings will remain the same as this year).
- Passes will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. We hope to accommodate as many riders as possible, but we anticipate that routes will sell out. Please make your purchase as soon as possible.
- Only annual passes will be available. Your pass is only valid on your assigned route. Passes are not transferable (to other people or other routes).
- The cost of passes for the 2023/24 school year will be $345 each way/$690 round trip. This represents approximately 35% of the actual cost of the pass (the remainder is subsidized by local and state contributions).
- Please review information about routes and timing to select the correct route and stop.
- Passes purchased before July 15 will be received in time for the start of school. Buying a pass signifies that you have read, reviewed with your student, and agree to abide by the information shared in the FAQs and bus rules.
We are happy to answer any questions you have at info@buschallenge.org. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing many of your students on board!

Grab a friend and consider volunteering together - there are two time slots available, from 8:30-10am and 10-11:30am. Maybe you’re up for leading one of the games (parachute, anyone?), or maybe the First Aid station or one of the snack tables is more your speed. Mr. Kaiser and the PTA team appreciate your help! Please see the Sign-Up Genius for more detail. See you on the blacktop!
