Dear Reed Families & Caregivers,

On behalf of our entire Reed Team, may I extend our most sincere thank you to our entire Reed School Community (students, parents, caregivers, PTA, and our District Administration Team) for making  the 2023 Staff Appreciation Week such a special experience for each and every Reed staff member. Throughout the week, students, families, and caregivers shared generous expressions of appreciation and gratitude; the warm sentiments permeated the campus. As always, we are grateful to be part of such an inclusive and thoughtful community.

Warmly,

Mary Niesyn & Staff

Windrush Farm 1st Grade Field Trip

Thanks to the generous support of our Reed PTA, all first grade classes had an opportunity to visit Windrush Farm in Petaluma this month. Students experienced a full day of hands-on farm life.  Together, they learned all about creatures on the farm. Smiles filled faces as students explored a pond, fed sheep, pulled tufts of wool from sheared alpacas, and even petted a baby lamb!

News from the STEAM Lab & Builders' Studio

Throughout this final trimester, Reed students have been learning all about circuitry in the STEAM Lab.  Lessons have provided students with opportunities to create human circuits, build various projects with Snap Circuits, and explore a range of possibilities using batteries and LED lights. Be sure to ask your child all about their new understanding of circuits!

When a circuit is closed, electricity flows

When a circuit is open, electricity is broken.

In the Builders’ Studio, Reed students have been using a variety of materials to explore, demonstrate, and use their imagination to reinfore and develop social skills and collaborative learning. Way to go Reed Raccoons!

A Note from our Librarian Mrs. Smith:

Friday, May 19 is the final deadline to return all Reed School library books. If you have lost or misplaced  a book, please email Mrs. Smith: lsmith@reedschools.org

2023-2024 Enrollment

Please email reed@reedschools.org if you will be moving out of the area and your PreK, Kindergartener or 1st grade student will NOT be returning to Reed School in the fall. This information is critical as we plan for staffing, so please let us know as soon as possible.

Bus Pass Announcement from the Yellow Bus Program

We are pleased to announce that annual bus passes for next year are on sale at www.buschallenge.org. A few notes before you make your purchase:

  • The bus program is designed to provide neighborhood-to-school service. You can view maps of next year’s routes and individual stops by visiting this link and clicking on your selected school (routes, stops, and timings will remain the same as this year).
  • Passes will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. We hope to accommodate as many riders as possible, but we anticipate that routes will sell out. Please make your purchase as soon as possible.
  • Only annual passes will be available. Your pass is only valid on your assigned route. Passes are not transferable (to other people or other routes).
  • The cost of passes for the 2023/24 school year will be $345 each way/$690 round trip. This represents approximately 35% of the actual cost of the pass (the remainder is subsidized by local and state contributions).
  • Please review information about routes and timing to select the correct route and stop.
  • Passes purchased before July 15 will be received in time for the start of school. Buying a pass signifies that you have read, reviewed with your student, and agree to abide by the information shared in the FAQs and bus rules.

We are happy to answer any questions you have at info@buschallenge.org. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing many of your students on board!

Staff Appreciation

A HUGE thank you for making our wonderful staff feel appreciated last week. I know all the cards, flowers, treats, and coffees made them feel loved. Thank you for making that possible!

Field Day

The Reed Field Day extravaganza will be held on Wednesday, June 7th! This end-of-year tradition is always a student favorite and we need help to make this year’s the best one yet! Grab a friend and consider volunteering together - there are two time slots available, from 8:30-10 and 10-11:30. Maybe you’re up for leading one of the games (parachute, anyone?), or maybe the First Aid station or one of the snack tables is more your speed. Mr. Kaiser and the PTA team appreciate your help! Please see the Sign-Up Genius for more detail. See you on the blacktop!

Book Drive

Incredible job Team Reed on a successful Book Drive! Along with Bel Aire, we collected a combined total of 3,690 books for the Book Exchange! These books will be distributed to under-resourced children in Marin County. We are so proud of our collective efforts! Thank you to everyone who participated! Also, special thanks to Shirley Young for collecting and delivering the books to The Book Exchange on behalf of Reed and Bel Aire Schools!

*Special Library Volunteering Opportunity*

Mrs. Smith needs help for a large undertaking at the end of this month -- Book Weeding!  This year, the district libraries are closing for the last two weeks of the school year to focus on getting rid of the books that haven't been checked out in some time, are outdated, in poor condition, etc. Volunteers will take spreadsheets with book titles listed to weed, pull them off the shelf, and make piles which Mrs. Smith will then organize.

We need 3-4 volunteers for the following days from 8:30am-10:30am:

Tuesday, May 30

Wednesday, May 31

Thursday, June 1
