Dear Reed Families & Caregivers,

It is hard to believe that Spring recess is days away. On behalf of the entire Reed team we wish our students and families a wonderful week. Please take a moment to look through the many photos below of all the exciting events and activities that have already taken place this spring. And please help me give a warm Reed School welcome back to Dr. McGrath!

Warmly,

Mary Niesyn & Staff

Save the Date! Open House & 2nd Grade Choir Performance • April 27th  6:00-7:30pm

We look forward to seeing all of our Reed families at Open House. The evening will begin at 6:00pm on the blacktop in front of the library with a brief musical performance by our 2nd grade choir. Following the performance, classrooms will open and families are invited to stop by at anytime. Your child will have the opportunity to share with you some of their many accomplishments from the year. We know this will be an exciting evening for the entire family!

*Reminder...to ensure a safe and successful evening, students and siblings should remain with caregivers at all times.

Read Across Reed

Last Wednesday, Reed School hosted our annual Read Across Reed event. We were joined by many important community members. Guest readers included representatives from our local fire and police departments, our interim Superintendent, Tiburon’s Mayor, our local children’s librarian, principals, RUSD Board members, our Reed crossing guard, and more. Several of our 2nd grade students welcomed and escorted our guests through classrooms as they read treasured stories to our students. Be sure to ask your child all about it.

Book Fair

The Book Fair was a big success thanks to the time and effort of our librarian, Ms. Smith, our amazing PTA volunteers, staff, and many parent volunteers. Thank you for your support!

Forts & Flashlights in the Library

All students enjoyed reading in a cozy way in the library last week...with blankets & flashlights!

A Note from our Foundation (FRS) Sponsored Music Teacher: Ms. Balfe

This month Reed students have been singing, dancing, playing games, and reading rhythms with instruments. Depending on the age of your child(ren), you may have been hearing some of the songs around your house in recent weeks, including: The Corner Grocery Store (a silly song), Mr. Rabbit (game), Seed In The Ground (about a flower growing in a garden), and Books Fall Open (about reading books). Our 2nd grade chorus, an 'opt-in' lunch-time club, started up again in March and we are looking forward to sharing a few songs with you at Open House on April 27th.

Nurse's Corner - Is that a louse in my child's hair?

The good news is that we are returning to a more “normal” way of life since the pandemic began. The bad news is that nuisances such as lice infestations increase when children spend more time together sharing hats, brushes, clothing, sleepovers and snuggly reading and play time together. This is a friendly reminder to please check your child’s head regularly for lice. Please note that RUSD policy is that children with live lice should not attend school until they have been treated at home or by a professional lice treatment service. Children who are found to have live lice while at school will be allowed to stay until the end of the school day, and their parents will be notified; they may return to school once lice removal treatment has begun. Please read “A Parent’s Guide to Head Lice” from the California Department of Public Health for more information about head lice and how to treat an infestation. Thank you for partnering with us to keep our schools free of lice!

Book Fair

Reed Book Fair 2023 is in the books! Thank you to ALL of the parents, teachers, and staff who volunteered their time to make this year’s Reed Book Fair an outstanding success! A special shout out to our librarian Ms. Smith for all her efforts!

Lunch time sales showed off our 2nd graders’ math and money management skills, as well as their collaboration and generosity with friends. It was such a joy to see many Reed families on Family Night, strengthening our students' enthusiasm for books and the special bond of community!

Not only did we sell more books than ever, we raised $1292 worth of books donated to Adopt A Family, an agency that works to prevent homelessness by supporting families in Marin County with financial assistance. We thank our generous Reed community of families & teachers for making Reed “a special place to be!”

Volunteer at Recess

We are looking for Friday lunch recess volunteers from 12:00-1:15 p.m. Help Mr. Kaiser during lunch recess by supervising games like Twister, cornhole, and jump rope. For consistency, we ask for volunteers to sign up for multiple shifts and to read the activities guidelines ahead of time. Sign up (and read the guidelines) HERE.

Lost and Found

Please be sure to check the lost and found for any favorite jacket, sweater, sweatshirt, or water bottle. The lost and found rack is stationed next to the gate by the MPR. Items left behind will be donated on April 7 and June 9.

Helpful hint: be sure your child’s first and at least last name is on anything your child brings to school (labels are best, Sharpie works in a pinch). Every effort is made to reunite lost items with their owners. Thank you!
