Principal's Message

Families,

Hope you and your family are doing well. We are in the heart of the school year, when fatigue typically sets in for both students and staff. This upcoming vacation is needed to rejuvenate our minds and bodies.

Having spent a little over a decade at the high school level, I am learning (and remembering) how middle school students act and feel. One thing I’m noticing at the middle school level is the prevalence of inappropriate joking amongst friends and others. Some of the jokes involve sexual situations, gender, race, religion and more. It is important for students to understand which types of jokes are appropriate and which are not. It is also important for them to realize that jokes often make others feel uncomfortable, even if the audience is close friends. I recommend that you, as parents or guardians, have some conversations about how inappropriate joking, both in person and through phone communication, can cause harm. Please take time for a true conversation with your child that jokes can make others feel badly or insecure and that some jokes can have severe consequences. Physical and emotional safety are of utmost importance to the wellbeing of our students. We could use your support at home to get this message across.

Speaking of safety, have you ever heard your student mention Mr. DJ? He is our campus supervisor, DJ Wade (pictured below). He is often the face of our school, for he is tasked with keeping our campus safe, by constantly being visible on campus. Mr. DJ creates fantastic relationships with our students. He handles student-student conflict and does so with a caring heart. Our school and our students are so lucky to have him. I just want to give him a shout out and let you all know how important he is to our school.

Hope your students have a terrific mid-winter break. Please note that our second trimester is ending on March 3rd.

Best Wishes,

Chad Stuart (he/him)

From Del Mar's leadership Class: Hello Del Mar! Great news... the dance will be taking place on Friday March 10th from 6:30-8:30PM. Leadership has planned an awesome dance including a professional DJ, an MC, black lights, neon face paint, a Photo Booth and so much more! Remember to wear neon because the dance is neon themed. Tickets are on sale starting this Wednesday for 20 dollars. The ticket comes with an entry to the dance, cheese or pepperoni pizza, a bag of chips, a drink, and dessert. The dance is going to be super fun and a night to remember.  We can’t wait to see you there! Tickets are for sale in the office and are $20 each.

No One Eats Alone Day

No One Eats Alone Day was recognized today at Del Mar. No One Eats Alone is a national prevention program to tackle the problem of social isolation in schools. No One Eats Alone encourages students to not only sit with classmates they know and to get to know them better, but also to include others who might feel left out. Today, our students learned about the program and made it a point to include others during lunch. Today's goal was to educate our students to help end the feeling of social isolation and to be accepting of everyone.

February Food Drive~EXTENDED~Please Help!

Our Leadership students are partnering with the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank to host Del Mar's annual Food Drive, starting Monday, February 6th!  This is a perfect time to demonstrate acts of kindness by helping others in need. It will run through March 3rd and is a school contest--the Advisory that collects the most food donations will win an ice cream party!

Please go to this link to watch an amazing video, produced by our Leadership students, explaining everything you need to know about the food drive!

Morning & Afternoon Del Mar Bus Riders

Beginning February 27th (after the midwinter break), students will need to show their bus passes to board the bus. Students without bus passes will not be allowed to ride the bus. If your son or daughter has misplaced or forgotten their bus pass, please email info@buschallenge.org for a replacement, and in the interim they may come to the office to receive a temporary bus pass.

A limited number of half price passes are available on several routes for the remainder of the year ($157.50 one way, $315 round trip). If you would like to purchase a pass, please contact info@buschallenge.org

Thank you for your cooperation.

Breakfast/Lunch Program

Here is the February Breakfast and Lunch Menu:

Thank You PTA!

Thank you to our wonderful PTA for providing lunch for our staff yesterday for Valentine’s Day. We are so thankful for your support and for making us happy with food.

In addition, PTA helped facilitate kindness activities for Valentine’s Day. Our students wrote Valentine’s cards that were delivered to senior care homes and rehabilitation facilities. We appreciate the help of the PTA in coordinating this.

Del Mar Kindness
Students crafted thoughtful notes and festive decorations for seniors last week in their advisory classes to spread kindness to those who may be missing loved ones. The PTA delivered them to several local assisted living centers so the residents can enjoy the cheerful creations. Thank you to all of the PTA members who donated supplies and assisted in the efforts. Way to go Dragons!

Del Mar Athletics- See Our Website

Attention all golfers - Del Mar's golf team is looking for parents and volunteers to help coach the team this year. If you have any experience and would like to help, please contact Jason Silva at jsilva@reedschools.org. You can also visit the Del Mar Athletics website to find out more information. This is an entirely parent run, parent driven team, so if we do not find coaches, we will not be able to field a team this year.

Bell Schedule

Our 2022-23 regular bell schedule can be found HERE.

Attendance Instructions

Please keep sick children home and please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (415-435-1468, ext. 4) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Unexcused absences do not excuse a student from classroom assignments.
Arriving Late? Leaving Early? Follow these instructions:
Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up in the middle of the day, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If they must leave in the middle of a class, please send them with a note to give to that teacher so they can excuse themselves. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly!

We Are Here For You!
