Online PreK & Kindergarten Registration (new families only) for 2023-2024 school year

Dear Reed Families & Caregivers,

It's a big week at Reed School.  Yesterday 1st grade parents and caregivers were treated to an amazing student musical performance led by our Foundation-supported music teacher Ms. Carolyn Balfe.

Today Reed students celebrated the 100th Day of School!  Throughout the day students participated in a variety of classroom lessons and activities exploring the theme of 100.  This may have included building with 100 objects, counting and sorting sets of 100, or reflecting on life 100 years from now.  Be sure to ask your child all about their 100th day of school and enjoy the photos below.  We also began our day with Walk & Roll to School, and later we practiced a fire drill.

On Friday we look forward to our school-wide Global School Play Day.  Students across the campus will engage in games and activities that support the 4 Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.  There sure is a lot happening at Reed School!

Warmly,

Mary Niesyn & Staff

Our first Walk & Roll to School Day of the new year and we had a great turnout on a chilly day!

1st grade students flipped a penny 100 times and recorded their results each time.

A kindergarten class shared a 100's zoo animal poem and dance at community time.

We saw a themed lunch!

Reed School PreK/Kindergarten Registration - ENROLL NOW

PreK/Kindergarten online registration is open for incoming students new to Reed School. If you have an incoming age-eligible PreK or Kindergarten child, please register as early as possible.  Spread the word among friends and neighbors in the district. Early registration is important so we can plan and secure staff and classrooms.

*Current PreK & Kindergarten students do not need to re-register. Current students will remain automatically enrolled.

Art Note from Ms. Caldwell:

Art has been very busy these last 7 weeks. I am impressed by the students’ progress and their commitment to doing their personal best!

PreK: We finished our abstract watercolor and salt project. We have started a pastel paint project using sponges.

Kindergarten: We have started a project with chalk pastels inspired by the artist Kandinsky.

1st Grade: We finished our watercolor bees and have started making lighthouses with ink and colored pencils.

2nd Grade: We finished our perspective trees and have started working on The Wave inspired by the woodcarving by Hokusai. These will be mixed media using ink, watercolor and tempera paint.

Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades have been working on their initials (photos below). In this lesson we discussed how initials represent our name which is an important part of our individual identity. If there is a story behind your child's name, please share it with them and I will include the story on their project.

The 1st grade Music Performance was wonderful!  Thank you, Ms. Balfe & students for all your hard work.

Last week, each 1st grade classroom enjoyed a presentation from Casey Richter, the Education Program Specialist from the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District.  Casey shared many interesting facts about yellow jackets and left educational kits to further extend each student's learning opportunity.

2021-2022 Yearbook

Unfortunately we had feedback that some of the yearbooks from last year did not hold up well.  If you would like a 2021-2022 replacement yearbook for your 1st or 2nd grade child, please come to the front office and we will give you one.  Replacement yearbooks will be available until the supply runs out.

Spring Events are on the books!  Please mark your calendars!
We'll need lots of help making these events successful, particularly in the following ways:

Corporate Sponsorships - We have advertising opportunities available at various levels for both the Boutiques Shopping Event and our May Gala.  For information, please contact Michelle Wilson, mwilson@ridgecapitalinv.com or Chuck Hornbrook, clhornbrook@gmail.com

Sign Up Parties - Throw a party with your friends!  You host and the proceeds go to our kids.  Contact: Julie Stewart, julie.ohara@gmail.com. or Rachel Berman, rachelberman13@gmail.com - they are happy to give ideas as well.

Wine/Spirits - we are looking for wine donations (a nice bottle or small collection) for our silent auction, as well as a sponsor/donor for wine and cocktails for the Gala sit down dinner.  If you could help, please contact Mickey Hubbell, mickeybruce7@gmail.com or Amy Dugdale, amy.dugdale@gmail.com

Silent and LIve Auction Donations - we need lots of items to fill our Online Silent Auction and Live Auction at the Gala.  Do you have a vacation home, sports tickets, boat, or other experience you could donate?  Gift certificates, art, or gift baskets?  Please contact Toni Lee, ttoutloff@gmail.com or Katie Leary, khutchinson21@hotmail.com

Lunch Volunteering

Are you interested in becoming a regular volunteer at Reed this Spring? Do you have friends who are interested in getting involved with you? We have two spots open on Tuesdays in our school lunch volunteer schedule for this Spring and need your help.

Shifts run once a week, every other week (just twice a month) from 12-1 pm. This is a great opportunity to see your kiddos and their friends on campus while visiting with fellow Reed parents. Take a look at the google doc to check dates and shift availability. You can fill in your name or email Dana Berhoff dberhoff@yahoo.com or Maren Jaffe Maren.iansmith@gmail.com to sign up.
