Dear Bel Aire Families,

As we meet the mid-way point of the 2nd semester and class routines and daily rhythms are well established. Student learning is high, as is Bel Aire Spirit. We're starting 2023 strong!

We have a few fun events coming up next week. First, we'll be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge. Our fantastic Bel Aire teachers have identified a specific kindness activity for each day of the week. This is a great way to promote civility, caring, and belonging at school. Our Bel Aire refrain is "Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Fair"  and as the Dalai Lama said, "Making others happy is not a question of sacrificing our own happiness. Trying to make others happy, even when we do not always succeed, is a source of great satisfaction. Anger and hatred are signs of weakness, while compassion is a sure sign of strength."

In November's Youth Truth Student Survey, Bel Aire students self-reported high mental and emotional health levels--at 95%ile for all schools surveyed. As I shared with the RUSD Board of trustees last week, this is an incredible reporting and one for us to expand upon with events that promote well-being and belonging. I would like to add a huge THANK YOU, to all of you parents and guardians, for the care and attention you give to these children--it's the most important thing in the world (no hyperbole)!

Also, next week, is the return of the Bel Aire  school-wide spelling bee! The top two spellers from each class will be invited to the semi-finals next week in the MPR at lunch. We'll have the FINAL ROUND at our Monday Morning Meeting. Parents of spelling semi-finalists and finalists will be invited to the events. Thank you, Mrs. McDonald, for leading the BA spelling bee this year.
