Principal Message

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!
As we enjoy this beautiful long weekend, We wanted to invite you to take a moment to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy. Our teachers and staff are continuously folding in important lessons we learned from Dr. King, not just this week, but all year long.
Martin Luther King wanted equality. He wanted peace for our world. Martin Luther King was a risk-taker, he was courageous---just like we encourage all of our students to be here at Neil Cummins. His work started as trying to make the world equal for people with different skin colors. His work then continued on to strive for peace for all kinds of different people. We have learned about how much it helps our world to have people who are all different from each other. And, we still have more learning to do.
Let’s acknowledge and celebrate our differences as we continue the work that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. started!
Sincerely,
Kyle Shaw, Principal
Literacy Coffee Chat
On January 18 at 8:30am in the Cove Gallery we will be hosting a coffee chat to discuss the recent Literacy Update from Brett Geithman. There are areas that have been identified for improvement and we want to share our action plans with you. The format will be a 20-30 minute overview, followed by literacy Q&A, and then time for questions about anything and everything district related. We hope to see you there!
Board Updates
On January 18 the Board will celebrate Cove and Neil Cummins being awarded California Distinguished Schools. Congratulations students, teachers, and staff! Trustees will vote on supporting the East Corte Madera territory transfer petition withdraw, independent auditor’s report, the revoking of independent study, and school accountability report cards. Additionally, Trustees will be provided with an update on literacy. The Board Meeting will be held in person at 6:00 in the Hall Library; no RSVP required. The meetings will also be live streamed via Zoom (link; passcode - lcmsd). Please know, public comments will only be taken by in person attendees; public comments via Zoom will not be available. If you cannot attend the meeting, public comments are welcome via email (mokeeffe@lcmschools.org) and will be included in Board Meeting minutes. We hope to see you there!

Spring Online Auction Volunteer Needs:
- Join the solicitations team - we provide you with an email template and reach out to businesses on our hit list. These are mostly businesses that frequently support SPARK so they are familiar with our outreach efforts which begin in mid-January and through late February. This is a 4-week commitment and you can sign up for as many as 20 accounts or as few as five. Our success depends on great items and we need your help to make this happen! Contact info@SPARKschools.org
- Join the catalog team - we provide you with a style guide and you work on copywriting and editing the auction item package blurbs. A great job to do at home! We need 5-8 people to help out. This is a 2-3 week commitment during February-March before the online auction opens on March 15th. Contact Jennifer Ginsburg at jginsburg@SPARKschools.org
