Principal Message

Thank you to all of our teams of parent volunteers at our assembly on Friday January 6th! We had the launch and 2023 introduction of two of our outstanding annual events, Neil Cummins Readathon and NC Variety Show. 

Neil Cummins Readathon is back! All of our students watched the Readathon kickoff video Friday at the assembly. Please check out the additional information below in School and PTO News to learn more about our amazing fundraising event!  Variety Show particulars are here with more information to come for parents and students to unpack to start planning if they want to participate. 

With traditions continuing and new experiences coming each day in this time of looking forward to the year ahead I remind myself of this: “What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year” Vern McLellan.

LCMSD Family Education Night 

Save the date!! On Wednesday, January 18th at 7pm in conjunction with Kentfield PTA and all three sites in LCMSD, we are excited to bring you a night for Digital Health and Internet safety. This is a great opportunity to hear from our speaker Katie Greer on ways your family can support healthy and safe digital citizenship practices. The 7th Annual Neil Cummins Readathon is Coming! 

Get ready for a fun day of reading and reading-related activities at Neil Cummins on January 25! The Readathon is PTO’s biggest fundraiser, raising money for vital programs and resources like classroom supplies and instructional materials, professional development for teachers, campus improvements and more. Each student will receive a link to their fundraising page this week which can be shared with family and friends. Our goal is to raise $65,000 for our school and every donation gets us closer to that goal. Throughout the month we’ll launch book recommendations, announce visiting authors and so much more. 🎤 Variety Show 2023 Keeping the Neil Cummins traditions going, we will have our annual Variety Show for 2nd-5th grade performers in the Gym on March 22!
Sign ups will open on January 17 and close January 27. Be on the lookout for Actionaly messages and emails with more info. 

Secret Snowflake Magic The PTO would like to thank everyone who participated in the Secret Snowflake gift giving this year! The staff expressed their gratitude for the hats, and had a nice send off before the holiday break.

Choose a new Book for the New Year!

First up, kids with January birthdays can look out for a Birthday Book Program flier from the NC Library in their backpack this week. Simply make a small donation to this fun program and your child will get to choose a brand new book, with their name written on a bookplate inside, for all to enjoy at the Neil Cummins Library. 

And in addition, don’t forget to support your beloved local store, The Book Passage! Mention Neil Cummins at check out (or in the comments field if ordering online) and the school will receive a portion of the purchase in the form of bookstore gift certificates. We use these to buy even more books for the kids to enjoy in the library.

🎨Art is Awesome Huge thanks to SPARK for funding art in our schools! The Art Room can always use any of the following items you might have in an effort to reuse, recycle, keep things out of landfill, and upcycle them into student masterpieces! Items can be put in a bag with "Ms. Mathews Art Room" and dropped off at the office for convenience.

- Literally any types of paper 

- Leftover or unwanted arts/crafts supplies 

- Leftover or unwanted stationery supplies

- High quality magazines with pictures for collage

- Nice ribbon bits and pieces

- Plastic food containers of any kind

SPARK funds all of our basic supplies and we are set on those, this is just in an effort to recycle/reuse/repurpose things you may be throwing out. 

 Registration for School Year 2023-24 

Registration for the 2023-24 school year will open January 10, 2023. If you, or anyone you know has an entering Kindergartener, or a 1^st-7^th grade student  who is not currently attending LCMSD, but would like to attend next year, please pass along this information. Click here for information on the registration process. IMPORTANT: If your student is currently enrolled in K-7 and you will be attending for the 2023-24 school year, there is no need to re-register. Your student will automatically roll up to the next grade.  

Spring Online Auction & Spring Gala Volunteers Needed: As we gear up for our spring events, we need parent volunteers to help out with auction solicitations, catalog editing, and the Spring Gala. 

• The Spring Online Auction will be held March 15-20 and we need volunteers from mid-January to the end of February. 
• The Spring Gala will be held Friday, May 5th and we have many volunteer positions large and small. These are our two biggest fundraising events of the year and we need all hands on deck.
