Principal's Message

Families,

Happy New Year! We were excited to welcome our students back to school yesterday. It always amazes me to see what a couple of weeks off can do for students - so many had smiles on their faces and a calmness to them. We are looking forward to a fantastic year of 2023!

Often students can show school fatigue in the spring semester of school. I recommend you sit down with your student and help them establish some learning goals for the remainder of the school year. Ask them what learning habits work for them, and where there are areas for growth. Use the conversation to help guide your student toward their goals, and establish ways you can help support them at home.

Best Wishes,

Chad Stuart (he/him)

Principal

Marin County Significant Weather Event Forecast

As you all know, Marin is forecast to receive a significant storm this evening and Thursday with the potential of high winds, flooding, and power outages.

The Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) has been monitoring this storm and assisting districts as we prepare.  We are also in close communication with involved agencies and we will pass along any pertinent information to our families and staff.

Due to the expected severity of the storm, we are taking precautions to ensure our campuses are safe for our students and staff.  Our maintenance and custodial staff have inspected the areas on our campuses, and our staff will continue to monitor conditions throughout the course of the storm.

Please know that our plan is to keep schools open as long as there are no extended power outages, flooding, or impassable roads.  Please provide yourself extra time and use extra caution as you travel to and from school. As always, everyone’s safety is our primary concern.

In the unlikely event of a school closure, we will communicate to employees and parents/guardians via email and other means of communication.

Stay safe!

Fans At Basketball Games

Basketball season is here! Our 6th grade teams play games on Tuesdays, 7th grade on Wednesdays and 8th grade on Thursdays. While we encourage our students and parents to come support our teams, we expect them to be positive fans. This means, mainly, that students and parents should support our own Del Mar teams and not belittle or interact with our opponents or the game officials. We are using the same fan behavior guidelines adopted by the Marin County Athletic League for high schools, which can be viewed HERE.

Please note that students will be asked to leave the gym and will be subject to school consequences if they cannot maintain positive fan behavior at the games. In addition, if your child plans to attend a road game at another school facility as a fan, we ask that they be accompanied by an adult who can observe their behavior and can transport them home if the opposing gym’s supervisor asks them to leave for any reason.

Fan behavior is a reflection of our school. We ask that both parents and students stay positive and not engage with the opponents or game officials. It should be a fun atmosphere for all. Go Dragons!!!!

Soul Shoppe - 7th Grade Students

Seventh-graders will be working with Soul Shoppe during Physical Education to build self and social awareness and relationship skills.  Students will learn how assumptions and judgments create disconnection, drama, and other hurtful behaviors. They will learn to build empathy for others, understanding how everyone has experienced some level of teasing, put downs or other oppressive behaviors. We greatly appreciate the PTA support for funding some of the programming we are able to provide our students. All of these programs are part of our school and district-wide endeavors to reduce bullying and to promote kindness and inclusivity within and beyond our community.

Seventh-grade students will have three sessions with Soul Shoppe in their Physical Education classes on January 9th, 23rd and 30th. When they participate, please take time to discuss with your children how they experienced the program.

Bell Schedule

Our 2022-23 regular bell schedule can be found HERE.

Attendance Instructions

Please keep sick children home and please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (415-435-1468, ext. 4) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Unexcused absences do not excuse a student from classroom assignments.
Arriving Late? Leaving Early? Follow these instructions:
Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up in the middle of the day, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If they must leave in the middle of a class, please send them with a note to give to that teacher so they can excuse themselves. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly!
