Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,

As 2022 comes to a close, I want to take a moment on behalf of the entire Reed staff to express our sincere gratitude to our students, families, and caregivers for such a successful first half of the school year. We also would like to thank our many parent and community volunteers for all you do to help make Reed School a special place to be.

Please be reminded that there is still time to participate in our Adopt-a-Family partnership. Gifts will continue to be collected through Friday, December 9th. You may drop off gifts in the front office anytime before 8:30am on the 9th. A special shout out to our amazing PTA for creating such generous and meaningful opportunities for our students and families to experience the joy of giving throughout this holiday season.

Happy Holidays,

Mary Niesyn & Reed Staff

Hour of Code

We live in a world surrounded by technology. We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works. Last week Reed students participated in Hour of Code across the school.

The Hour of Code is an introduction to computer science using fun, one-hour tutorials to show that anybody can learn the basics. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. Hour of Code is inspired by Computer Science Education Week. Our students joined millions of students around the globe as they learned about computer science. We endeavored to make our Hour of Code inspiring and fun for our students, so we used a variety of block-based programming apps and other coding challenges that we introduced throughout the week.

A Bowling Alley at Reed School?

Thank you to the many volunteers who have participated in the fun-filled weeks of bowling. Help me give a shout out to Mr. Kaiser and Mrs. Sanjeev for creating this amazing opportunity for students and volunteers!

What a Treat!

Today Reed students were treated to a choral performance featuring the Bel Aire-Reed Combined Chorus.  At the end of the performance the entire Reed School community enjoyed a sing along, joined by our Del Mar Leadership students.  Big thanks to our dynamic music teaching duo - Mr. Gist and Ms. Balfe.  It was a very festive performance!

Carline Safety Reminder

First and foremost, may I extend a Reed School thank you to the parents and caregivers who are able to volunteer for morning carline; we simply could not do this without your help!

Gentle reminder to our Reed Community: Morning carline must end promptly by 8:25am to ensure that students get safely to class while supervisors are still on the playground. If you arrive after 8:25am, find a safe place to park your car and walk your child to the front office. Please do not drop your child off at carline after volunteers have left. Thank you to everyone for your willingness to help us in this team effort. It truly takes a village!

Lost & Found

Please check the rack near the MPR - it's filled with sweatshirts & jackets. Everything left behind will be collected on December 16 for donation. Remember to label clothes!

Antigen Test Kits for Every Student

At-home antigen test kits will be sent home with every student this Friday.  Please keep an eye out for them in your student's backpack or tote.  These are to be used at your convenience over the holidays. More information will follow in the district's Headline News.

Food Drive

Our Reed Raccoon community donated over ONE THOUSAND items (1008 to be exact) which weighed 978 pounds!! A huge thank you to our generous community! This goes to show just how much one person’s efforts can add up to make a big difference. Thank you Reed Raccoons!

Friendly reminder to bring your gifts wrapped and labeled to your child’s classroom by this Friday, Dec 9 at 8:30am.  Thanks to everyone's generosity, there are just a few more wishes left to be granted. Please see your child’s classroom and corresponding family below:
