Principal's Message

Families,

It is the time of the year that we give thanks. I would like to thank this wonderful community for welcoming me in as the principal at Del Mar. The transition has been so positive for me - I hope it has been for you and the school as well. I am thankful for the terrific staff. They are amazing people who are dedicated to the success of the kids. I am thankful for our students. They come to school every day with a positive attitude and ready to learn and grow. Lastly, I am thankful for our community of parents. You are the ones who are there supporting your child. I’ve always liked the quote, “Behind every young child who believes in themself is a parent who believed first.”

Please enjoy the time with your children next week as we are out of school. We look forward to having them back on November 28th for the final push to the December vacation!

I do have one ask: please complete the parent Youth Truth Survey (information below). I truly value the input of our stakeholders. So far only 15% of our parents have completed the survey. That is not statistically significant to help us make informed decisions for our school based on your input. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey by the end of the week.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Thanks,

Chad Stuart (he/him)

Principal

Report Cards Are Available!

Report Cards will be published in ALMA later today, and emailed to parents. Please take time to sit with your child and have a conversation about their learning this past trimester and discuss their goals and intentions for Trimester Two. Remember, if you have any questions about grades in any classes to reach out to that specific teacher.

Turkey Trot-this Friday!

The Turkey Trot is a long standing traditional race at Del Mar! It begins right around 1:50 on Friday. If you'd like to watch, please sign in at the office first. There will be 6 separate races: girls/boys 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

Del Mar Sports/Basketball Try-outs

Congratulations to our fall athletes!!! Our Cross Country team had good participation numbers and experienced much success. They were coached by our campus supervisor Mr. DJ Wade. Our 8th grade girls volleyball team, coached by math teacher Ms. Rian Lynam, had an undefeated season! Shout out, as well, to our 6th and 7th grade volleyball teams. We love seeing our students out there participating and are thankful for the staff members who coach them!

Basketball is the seasonal  sport for middle schools in the winter. We typically have a high turnout for some grade levels in basketball, and limited space. Therefore, unfortunately not all students who sign up will make the team. We recommend speaking with your child before tryouts to ensure they understand this going in, as it may be their first opportunity with cuts.

Tryouts for basketball will take place the week we return after Thanksgiving break. We are still looking for coaches for both the 6th grade girls and boys teams. If you would like to coach or know someone who does, please reach out to our Athletic Director Jason Silva at jsilva@reedschools.org

Please also check out the Athletics page of our website!

School Arrival & Departure Times

We want to remind you of our expectations regarding when students should arrive at and leave school. Students may NOT be on campus before 7:45 a.m. unless hours are extended by teacher request or the student is participating in a supervised activity. Students must leave campus immediately after school unless they are involved in a school activity. There is no supervision for students arriving earlier or leaving later during the school day. After arriving at school, students are not permitted to leave campus without first signing out in the office.

Youth Truth Parent Survey

If you haven’t already, we want to hear from you!!!! Your input is valuable to us. Reed Union School District has partnered with the national nonprofit, YouthTruth, to help us hear feedback from you about what we are doing well, and how we can improve.

The YouthTruth Family survey will be open through this Friday.

PLEASE TAKE THIS 15 MINUTE ONLINE SURVEY HERE: ytsurvey.org/rusdfamily22

Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other parents/guardians throughout the district. You can complete the survey once per child if you have multiple children in the district, or just once if they have similar experiences. Thank you for your feedback! It is a gift that helps us continually improve.

Attendance Instructions

Please keep sick children home and please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (415-435-1468, ext. 4) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Unexcused absences do not excuse a student from classroom assignments.
Arriving Late? Leaving Early? Follow these instructions:
Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up in the middle of the day, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If they must leave in the middle of a class, please send them with a note to give to that teacher so they can excuse themselves. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly!
