Dear Reed Families and Caregivers,

As we move into the season of gratitude and giving, we at Reed School would like to begin by sending our most sincere thank you to the Belvedere Community Foundation for the generous grant which enabled us to order beautiful magnolias and maple trees to enhance our playground and kindergarten eating area. A few additional plantings are yet to come. In addition to enjoying the beauty of the trees, our entire kindergarten was treated to an impromptu lesson by our maintenance team learning all about trees, roots, and planting!

Thank you also to our entire Reed community for demonstrating the spirit of giving through our successful holiday food drive. It was wonderful seeing the smiling faces of many of our students as they filled the Food Bank bins each morning. Families can extend this spirit of giving with the Adopt a Family program that launches this Friday. Be sure to read the message from our PTA below for more information.

On behalf of the entire Reed Staff, I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. We hope you enjoy time with friends and family.

Warmly,

Mary Niesyn & Staff

PreK and Kindergarten Library Field Trip

Our PreK and Kindergarten students are learning all about being active members of our local library.  Field trips will continue throughout the week.  Students learn to browse the library, check out books, and are treated to a read-aloud by Alicia Bell, the wonderful children’s librarian.  Thank you to the many parents who have been able to chaperone.  It really is wonderful to introduce our youngest students to these special parts of our local community!

PE News:  A Note from Mr. Kaiser

In PE class, students have been developing leadership skills by guiding warm-up exercises for their peers. We now have 19 different warm-up exercises that all students know. Be sure to ask your child to show you a few of their favorites.

PreK students have done an excellent job learning routines and rotating station activities with very little assistance. Students are enjoying a silly song called “Watermelon Meow Meow."

Just before Halloween our students finished up the Cornhole unit where they learned how to toss, take turns, and keep score. We also learned a “scary” but silly game called Zombie Tag.

Our annual lunch recess 2nd Grade Team Pin Guard tournament is finishing up. It has been so much fun to watch our students’ skills and sportsmanship blossom. Ask your 2nd grader what the ‘black ball of mischief, mayhem, and misfortune’ does when it enters the game!

This week all students are playing a crazy game called Multi Beachball Scooter Board Soccer. As you may have guessed, students are scooting around the gym trying to kick one of 3 very large beach balls into the goal. If they score a goal, they become a goalie.

After the Thanksgiving break we start my favorite activity, the bowling unit. It’s at this time that all of our underhand toss and roll skills practice comes into play. We transform the gym into an 8 lane bowling center with disco lights and music. Students will be learning how to be the bowler, pin setter, ball return, and score keeper. There is a Sign-up Genius for an opportunity to volunteer with your child’s class to join the fun!

Youth Truth Survey

Reed Union School District has partnered with the national nonprofit, YouthTruth, to help us hear feedback from you about what we are doing well, and how we can improve.

The YouthTruth Family survey will be open until this Friday, November 18 and we want to hear from you! (This information was also emailed to families)

PLEASE TAKE THIS 15 MINUTE ONLINE SURVEY HERE: ytsurvey.org/rusdfamily22

Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other parents/guardians throughout the district. We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey. If you have more than one child who attends the school district, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child. Thank you for your feedback!

Adopt a Family

This year, Reed PTA is partnering with Adopt A Family of Marin to support five families (shared across Reed's 17 classes), in our Marin community during the holidays from November 18-December 9. The family’s gift wishlist and detailed instructions will be in your Room Parent email later this week. #reedkindness

Please wrap the gifts and label each one with the first name of the parent or child. You may leave the ‘From’ portion of the label blank. Bring the wrapped present to your child's classroom between Dec 5th-9th.

P.E. and Lunch Recess Volunteers

Volunteer during P.E. class for our annual Reed bowling games from November 28 to December 8th. An eight lane bowling alley will be set up in the Multi Purpose Room (MPR) and volunteers will assist students as they rotate through various jobs (bowler, pin setter, ball return, score keeper, next to bowl). This is a great opportunity for parents to enjoy some time with their kids during school. Sign up HERE.

We are also looking for Friday lunch recess volunteers from 12:00-1:15 p.m.  Help Mr. Kaiser during lunch recess by supervising games like Twister, corn hole, and jump rope. For consistency, we ask for volunteers to sign up for multiple shifts and to read the activities guidelines ahead of time.  Sign up (and read the guidelines) HERE.
