Petition for Territory Transfer - East Corte Madera

RUSD Community,

On November 11th, RUSD was notified that the Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) received verification of a valid petition of territory transfer for a territory within the East Corte Madera neighborhood.  The petition advocates that this territory be transferred from the Reed School District to the Larkspur Corte Madera School District. The petition was sent to the Marin County Registrar of voters for verification and the Certificate of Petition Verification was received.

We have also learned that the MCOE errored in releasing the full petition complete with signatures. Government code that covers the rules under the public records act specifically protects territory transfer petition signatures from release to the public.

Lastly, the County Committee on School District Organization (CCSDO) will schedule two dates for public hearings within 60 days of November 10, 2022, one in each school district. MCOE will coordinate the scheduling of the public hearing dates. We will keep you informed about the dates, and this will be the community's opportunity to express opinions about this possible transfer.
