Principal's Message

Families,

We appreciate the support and discussions many of you had with your child after our communication on Monday about a concerning social media post over the weekend involving a lookalike gun. I am thankful the police and our school addressed the situation immediately to determine that there was no threat to our school. Please know that when circumstances like this occur, we continue to help provide support for the individuals responsible and monitor the situation to ensure safety moving forward.

The occurrence was a good reminder that we need to focus on safety as a community. While our school is an academic institution, physical and emotional safety of our children comes first. With that, I just received THIS letter about gun safety from the Marin County Office of Education, the District Attorney's office, and the Marin County Sheriff's Department. Please take a moment to review.

On another safety note, our staff spent a portion of Monday’s Staff Development Day in safety training (in addition to workshops on classroom instructional practices). The emphasis of the safety training was “Stop the Bleed,” CPR and administering Narcan. The pictures below show some of our staff in action during the training!

I am looking forward to a wonderful fall with our students! Please continue reading our NewsFlash below for additional important information.

Thanks,

Chad Stuart (he/him)

Principal

8th Grade Challenge Day

We are so lucky to be able to offer our 8th graders experiences like Challenge Day. We received a lot of positive feedback from our students in regards to their experience for the day. They were able to connect with their peers on a much deeper level. Thank you to Dr. Kover and Dr. Gold for organizing the day. Thank you also to our parent volunteers who helped out each day.

Parents and students are given the opportunity to opt-out of Challenge Day, and participate in regular classes, if they so choose.

Picture Day

Picture Day was on Friday! Hopefully you saw your student’s ID card which was sent home with them on Friday. If you would like to order professional shots from the photographer, please go to THIS WEBSITE and follow the instructions to order.

October 20th-- The Great Shake Out

On 10/20 at 10:20 AM, RUSD will be conducting a districtwide earthquake drill. As we continue to improve our safety practices, we will incorporate the practice of an Emergency Operation Center and practice with communicating to our parents and staff during the drill. Watch for information on 10/20 and remember that it’s only a drill.

Traffic Safety

If you drop your student off on Hilary Drive, please either drop them off on the school side of the street or at the crosswalk across the street. Our morning supervisors have noticed that many parents drop off their student directly across from the gate (not by the crosswalk) and those students then dangerously jaywalk across the street when other cars are darting by for morning dropoff.

This picture indicates the area we are referring to. The green circles show appropriate places to drop off, while the red circle shows the spot of concern.

Eyes Up, Marin

Let’s Make our Streets Safer for Everyone!

From mid-October through the end of November, you’ll see bright and colorful banners and lawn signs popping up all over Marin asking people to keep their “Eyes Up” and be alert.  These signs will be asking drivers to slow down, watch when turning and look for pedestrians in the crosswalk; bicyclists to yield to pedestrians and to follow the rules of the road; And those walking to pay attention when crossing the street.

These messages will also show up in your social media feeds, and you can find them at www.streetsmartsmarin.org. Please share with your friends, family and co-workers!

The Eyes Up, Marin Campaign is part of the Street Smarts Program and Safe Routes to Schools, locally funded programs of the Transportation Authority of Marin.

Talk Saves Lives

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is providing “Talk Saves Lives” sessions for our community for the school year. The sessions target suicide prevention. For more information see THIS flyer.

Rainbow Fentanyl

Last NewsFlash, we provided information from the Marin County Office of Education and the California Department of Public Health Department about the Fentanyl problem we are facing as a society. The misuse and abuse of opioids, or any prescription medication, is already cause for concern, but there has been a rise in the prevalence of counterfeit Percocet and Oxycodone/oxycontin in Marin County as well as new forms of Fentanyl. We shared THIS with more information.

We wanted to provide some useful visuals that were shared with us regarding Rainbow Fentanyl.

Bell Schedule

Our 2022-23 regular bell schedule can be found HERE.

Attendance Instructions

Please keep sick children home and please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (415-435-1468, ext. 4) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Unexcused absences do not excuse a student from classroom assignments.

Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up in the middle of the day, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If they must leave in the middle of a class, please send them with a note to give to that teacher so they can excuse themselves. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly!
