Happy Fall! I hope you’re enjoying these cooler temperatures. I want to say how proud I am of our awesome staff members as they continue to do great things for students and continue to look for ways to learn and grow through professional learning and training opportunities. It’s great to see! I also hope to see everyone at the Run for Reed this afternoon.
- October 20th The Great Shake Out - on 10/20 at 10:20 AM, RUSD will be conducting a districtwide earthquake drill. As we continue to improve our safety practices, we will incorporate the practice of an Emergency Operation Center and practice with communicating to our parents and staff during the drill. Watch for information on 10/20 and remember that it’s only a drill.
- Update on Facility Committee - The sixth meeting took place on Tuesday. The committee continues to evaluate the condition of existing schools and discuss future educational visions and needed improvements. The input and work of this committee will be incorporated into a Facility Master Plan that will guide the implementation of facility improvements for the District over the next 5-10 years.
- Update on Math Task Force - The next full Math Task Force meeting will be held on Thursday, October 20th. During this meeting, the group will give feedback on a draft Action Plan devised by the Internal Math Task Force. As you know, we have incredible math achievement in RUSD and we’re always looking for ways to continue to grow and improve.
- Update on Larkspur Corte Madera School District (LCMSD) Discussions - The third Interdistrict Transfer (IDT) discussion of this school year took place. Reed responded to LCM’s proposal. The more extensive joint communication can be found below.
If you are interested in more detailed information, please see below:
- Update on Larkspur Corte Madera School District (LCMSD) Discussions - On October 10, 2022 the RUSD and LCMSD teams met for the third time this school year to continue discussions regarding the interdistrict transfer agreement. RUSD shared its response to the key topics that were identified in the LCMSD proposal. The representatives from each district asked clarifying questions and discussed each topic in detail. The districts came to a tentative understanding on some of the parameters, and LCMSD provided some counter positions for RUSD to consider. Both districts agreed to continue the discussion at the next scheduled meeting on November 9, 2022.
- Update on Facility Committee - Over the past several months, the District has been evaluating capital improvement needs at each of our school sites in order to ensure our school facilities adequately support a well-rounded, modern school curriculum. The District has engaged assistance from a Facility Master Planning Committee made up of school site staff, parents, community members, and school facility professionals. This Committee has met five times over the course of this calendar year to evaluate the condition of existing schools, consider improvements and enhancements at each school, and learn about the school construction process and funding options. The Committee will be wrapping up its work over the next month and will bring forth recommendations on facility needs and funding options to the School Board in January. This work, in conjunction with input and direction from the School Board will be incorporated into a Facility Master Plan that will guide the implementation of facility improvements for the District over the next 5-10 years.
