Back to School Night Communication

Dear Del Mar Families,

Hope you had a great weekend. We are very excited to welcome you to Back to School Night this coming Thursday, September 1. This communication is to provide you with all the information you need to know for Back to School Night, as well as some additional school information and reminders.

For those of you who were able to attend the parent Zoom meeting on Friday, it was nice to see you. If you didn’t, a recording of the informational part of the meeting can be found HERE. Also, if you missed it from last week’s NewsFlash, check out THIS video as an introduction to our library.

Looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it on Thursday night!

Thanks,

Chad Stuart (he/him)

Principal

Back to School Night Information

Back to School Night is this Thursday, September 1, starting at 5:30 PM in our gym. After the introduction, you will then follow your student’s schedule to each teacher's class for seven minute periods.

We are asking that you bring a copy of your student’s schedule with you for the night. You may take a picture or a screenshot of your students schedule. In order to do this, you will have to log on to your ALMA page. If you are having trouble logging in to ALMA as a parent please click HERE for instructions. The office will be open that night if you have any questions or needs, feel free to stop by and see Laurie Kristy.

Here is the schedule for the night:

Parent Homework for Back to School Night

Our teachers often get questions about Standards Based Grading and Assessment, for this way of monitoring and reporting student progress can be different than previous grading systems. We ask that all parents view these two videos prior to Back to School Night to help become more familiar with our practices:

eBike Safety

eBikes are rapidly increasing in popularity, especially with teens as they provide increased independence and faster travel time. Parents are advised to do their own research and assess their children’s cycling abilities before purchasing one. Safe Routes to School Marin has provided THIS flier with helpful information for parents.

School Breakfast/Lunches This Week

Please read this important message from our superintendent regarding our Breakfast/Lunch program for this week. In short, while we will have breakfast and lunch available to students, it is limited this week - we ask that, if possible, students bring their own food to school this week.

Math Club

Dr. Gold is excited to invite any 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to join Del Mar's Mathclub in person this year.  The club will meet every Thursday starting September 22nd before school from 7:35 to 8:10 AM in the Library.  At this time, we're not sure if Marin County Office of Education will be sponsoring Mathletes, but if they do, we welcome club participants to join the four competitions after school.  We will also participate in some national math competitions at school.

Please email Dr. Gold by September 13th at agold@reedschools.org if your child is interested in joining the Mathclub, OR your child can complete the survey that was emailed to them from Mr. Song on August 25th  So, if you really like math and want an extra challenge, please give our club a try.  You'll have fun!  Dr. Gold also values and needs parents who would like to periodically volunteer, in person this year, to assist with Mathclub.  Any available parent volunteer should contact Dr. Gold, so he can provide information about "duties" and answer any questions.

Lunchtime Clubs

Clubs will be starting soon! This is a terrific way for students to get involved in school outside of the classrooms. Information about lunchtime clubs has been emailed to students and will be announced in Monday’s Student Bulletin. The bulletin is also emailed to parents, so you will be able to view a list of club options there.

RUSD Mission & Vision: Each student will be challenged and inspired to reach their fullest intellectual, social-emotional and creative potential to positively impact the world.
