Dear Families,

Our NewsFlash will come out every other week on Wednesdays. I recommend you read each addition in full when they come out so you can keep up to date with what’s happening at Del Mar.

We are off and running as a school. It is fantastic to see the positive energy on campus and the early learning occurring in the classrooms. Our teachers have been setting a positive tone with the focus on individual and collective growth. Please check in with your child about how the start of the school year has been going. Ask them how they can be their best self each day. We are all in this together!

One major way that you, as a parent, can support your child is by understanding how our teachers access their learning and monitor progress. With that, I ask that you view THIS video on our assessment / grading practices and THIS video on how you can support your student with this system.

I look forward to seeing you on Zoom this Friday at 9:00 AM for the “Principal’s Chat” and/or on September 1st at Back-to-School Night. One other thing of note is that we will be holding our first evacuation drill of the year this coming Monday during our Advisory period.

Thanks,

Chad Stuart (he/him/his)

Principal

Update From The Library

My name is Ryan Sonneville, and I am the new librarian at Del Mar. The library is open for students to check out books, and they will be given a formal introduction in their humanities classes in the near future. Please watch the first volume in our Library video series (via Drive or Youtube) and reach out to me at rsonneville@reedschools.org if you have any questions. I look forward to helping our students become lifelong readers!

Supplies

Students should have received locks, PE uniforms, iPads, and school supplies. If there is any supply that your student needs, please have them go to the office for help. There is a charge for lost locks, planners and school books that can be made online at THIS LINK

To help defray costs to the school for the locks and other supplies, we ask for a donation of up to $30.00 (any donation will help!). Checks can be written to "RUSD" and brought to the office, or you can use THIS LINK to pay online.

Cell phones and Smart Watches

If your student has a phone or smart watch, it will need to be powered off and left in their locker during school hours. Smart watches and cell phones are not allowed in classrooms.

Breakfast, Snacks & Lunch

We recommend sending your child with a snack and water bottle each day. We have a brand new vendor providing school breakfasts and lunches each day, which will be FREE to all students. While this program may be accessed by all students, you are always welcome to send your student with  lunch from home.

This is a new system and, with that, we are unsure if there may be lines or wait times to obtain the free lunch while we get the program started. We need to log each student who takes a breakfast or lunch. Soon we will share upcoming menus, so your child knows what to expect if they opt for the free lunch. We have not yet been provided with upcoming menus but will notify you as we get updated information. We also need volunteers to help with breakfast and lunch! Please sign up at THIS LINK.

Dropping Items Off at School

There are shelves outside the school office where you can leave labeled lunches or other items, if need be, during the day. Please inform your student to check those shelves since we do not deliver items to classrooms. If you are dropping off something of value (like an iPad) please bring that directly into the office. Please do not use one of our staff parking spots while dropping something off. There is ONE 5-minute spot in our lot for mid-day drop-offs.

Hello Del Mar Families,

As the Site Chair for the Del Mar PTA, I welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! I am looking forward to working with Principal Stuart and an amazing group of parent and teacher volunteers to fulfill the PTA’s mission - to enrich the lives of our children and the school community. I invite you to join the PTA community by becoming a member.  Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month in the Del Mar Library and all members are welcome to attend. If you’d like to get more involved, feel free to email me about upcoming volunteer opportunities. The PTA is currently seeking volunteers to help serve lunch and you can use this form if you are interested. My full welcome letter to the Del Mar community can be found here.

Sincerely,

Allison Hart

Student Bulletin

Here is a LINK to the Student Bulletin, so you can keep up with student news, sports updates, Advisory Challenges, Club News, etc! The Bulletin is read aloud on Monday afternoons, and emailed to parents and students.

Attendance Instructions

Please keep sick children home and please call the office on the day of your child's absence by 8:00 a.m. (415-435-1468, ext. 4) or email delmar@reedschools.org. This will eliminate the need for a call from the office. We expect students to attend school, unless there is an excused absence-for illness, injury, a medical/dental appointment or a religious holiday. All other absences are marked "unexcused." Unexcused absences do not excuse a student from classroom assignments.

Students arriving late to school must sign in with the office and get a tardy slip before going to class. If you need to pick your child up in the middle of the day, please try to do so between classes, and be sure to remind your child to come to the office to meet you there, without needing a call from the office. If they must leave in the middle of a class, please send them with a note to give to that teacher so they can excuse themselves. We do not ever want to call into a classroom unless there is an emergency, so please plan accordingly!

We are here for you!
