First Day of School/Minimum Day

Thursday, August 18, 2022

Dear RUSD Community,

I would like to welcome our new families and returning families to the 2022-2023 school year!  Our team is preparing for an awesome year ahead.  As we get closer to the first day of school, I'm so excited about our new PreK!  We are adding a whole new grade level to RUSD. We have two fantastic PreK teachers and two instructional aides to serve our two full classes at Reed. Please make our new TK/PreK students and families feel welcome. Big thanks to all of the amazing RUSD staff for your role in implementing a new grade level. Welcome!

  • New Breakfast & Lunch Program - Here are the key points for you to know:
  • This change is due to a new state mandate.
  • Breakfast and lunch is free for everyone.
  • Choice Lunch was not interested in following the federal guidelines so a new vendor was selected. The new vendor is The LunchMaster.
  • The meals will be similar to Choice Lunch, but you do not have to place an order.
  • Breakfast times are as follows:
  • Reed Elementary at 8:05am
  • Bel Aire at 7:30am
  • DelMar at 8:00am
  • We are waiting on the vendor to send the August menu link. We will send it as soon as we can. The monthly menu will usually be published the week before the month begins so that families can look at the options and decide if they would like to pack a lunch or ask for the LunchMaster meal.
  • The food will follow federal nutrition guidelines.

  • New Visitor Management System - Megan’s Law requires that we screen visitors on school campuses and that no sex offender is allowed on a school campus. After reviewing 3 systems, we selected SchoolPass as our Visitor Management System. Please be prepared to bring your ID whenever you are planning to volunteer on the campus as we will begin implementing the system this school year.
  • COVID Protocols from Public Health - Stay home when experiencing symptoms. Remember that you should be fever free for 24 hours.
  • Masks are optional.
  • If you test positive, you should isolate immediately and test on day 5. The earliest return is day 6 with an understanding that you should mask for the duration of the 10-day term.
  • Public Health states that if you have traveled, testing should take place before attending school.
  • COVID tests available at the school sites, feel free to stop by or contact your school site.

  • Professional Learning - I am so proud of our RUSD staff for their dedication! Staff members are participating in a variety of professional development opportunities including: math professional development, special education training, responsive classroom training with instructional strategies, equity planning, and differentiation on how to meet a variety of learner’s needs, etc. Thank you RUSD staff for your commitment to ongoing professional learning!

COVID

RUSD continues to prioritize the health and safety of students, staff and our community through our compliance with Public Health and Cal/OSHA regulations in addressing the presence of COVID-19 in our county. The RUSD has upgraded ventilation systems and encourages teachers to open doors and windows as feasible to reduce particle levels in our classrooms.

Students and staff with symptoms of illness consistent with COVID-19 and positivity for COVID-19 must stay home until the Public Health requirements for return are met. RUSD will continue to provide notification of exposure to staff and families so that individual protection measures can be taken based on personal risk assessment.

All RUSD schools will provide at-home tests and masks upon request in our front offices. Everyone is welcome to use a mask in RUSD.

In alignment with the Adult Workers in Schools Public Health Officer Order from August 11, 2021, any adult who works with or around students at a RUSD school must have verified vaccination status or provide weekly negative test results in addition to required District paperwork. The District continues to consult with Marin County Public Health (MCPH) in the best interests of our staff and students for optimal access to safe in-person learning and educational experiences.  For more information on COVID-19, please join the MCPH Zoom presentation on Monday, August 15, 2022, at 4:00pm for the school community.

Persons Who Test Positive for COVID-19

Stay home for at least 5 days after the start of symptoms (or after the date of first positive test if no symptoms).

Isolation can end after Day 5 if symptoms are not present or are resolving and a diagnostic specimen* collected on Day 5 or later tests negative.

If unable to test, choosing not to test, or testing positive on Day 5 (or later), isolation can end after Day 10 if fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.

If fever is present, isolation should be continued until 24 hours after fever resolves.

If symptoms, other than fever, are not resolving, continue to isolate until symptoms are resolving or until after Day 10. If symptoms are severe, or if the infected person is at high risk of serious disease, or if they have questions concerning care, infected persons should contact their healthcare provider for available treatments.

Per CDPH masking guidance, infected persons should wear a well-fitting mask around others for a total of 10 days, especially in indoor settings.
