LunchMaster Selected for New Universal Meals Program

Dear RUSD Families,

On July 9, 2021, Assembly Bill (AB) 130 was signed into law by Governor Newsom which established a California Universal Meals Program. Starting in School Year 2022–23, public school districts are required to offer students in grades PK–12 breakfast and lunch free of charge during each school day to any student that requests a meal, regardless of their free or reduced-price meal eligibility.

The Reed Union School District requested proposals for prepared meal and delivery services that were willing to follow state and federal nutrition guidelines. After reviewing three proposals received, administration recommended The LunchMaster to provide prepared meal and delivery services for all three district schools. The RUSD Board of Trustees approved entering into an agreement for these services in June 2022. District staff continues to plan for the Universal Meals Program. We are expecting to fully implement the program once the new school year starts.

We are very excited to be working with The LunchMaster to provide all RUSD students a free breakfast and lunch regardless of their free or reduced-price meal eligibility. We will provide all families with additional information about the Universal Meals Program as we get closer to the start of the school year.

Happy Summer!
